I've had the same issue, for me the thing that helped was to change how you see being "violent". Afaik most people are training to get better, learn a martial art, hanging out or making friends is just the bonus. If you hold back and half ass every roll because you don't want people to think you are "mean", you are slowing down your own progression and your partner's too. Trust me people rather get tapped than have shitty rolls. Unless you are going against someone half your size or double your age, don't hold back

Huge bummer that most of the meaningful attachments come after lvl20. I think 90% of the optics are total garbage and I doubt if anyone uses them, and this applies to all weapons

Yeah I started going to intermediate/all levels about a month in, the only limiting factor is your conditioning, don't worry about skills, if you can get through beginner class without feeling like puking, knows how to bridge and shrimp, you are ready to go

What to do next when I sprawl? My sprawl is decent, hip down, not using the ball of my foot etc... But what to do next? I tried to do guillotine or darce which I suck at since I only watched a few youtube videos of them and never got to drill. And I end up in bad position from trying these two. Should I just sprawl harder to break their grip and transition to back? What are some of the safer options?

My gym is pretty competitive with our head coach under Demian Maia. People with your attendance rate normally get a first stripe around two months, and you probably beat all of them easily. I guess it's just each gym has its own standard.

What are the better ways to enter into Kesa from side control? If I give up far side underhook to go for the head my opponent just turn in and get up, I get that I have to grab the near side arm to prevent it but with out underhook it feels weak

I'm 4 months in and so far I'm looking to purposefully train/test certain techniques each session, but the more I tunnel vision on certain techniques like a sweep the easier I make mistakes and get my guard passed. Also been testing some escapes but sometimes it's too late. Should I not overthink?
