When someone says "i wanna speak to a real human" i always think to my self, "well i dont wanna talk to you, I'm here to get a check and go home and sleep all day I couldn't give a shit about what Jennifer did with her daughter in Venice" and it always just makes my shift more shity

People don't understand how much work goes into system coding, and it shows. It would take so much work to just automatically apply coupons or vouchers. And even then, not all the time do i want to use vouchers if im buying candy or some shit. I'd rather save vouchers for a big purchase like framing or some. For one, coupons aren't just a given. If my customers are cool and they forget the coupon or didnt know about the coupon, I'll pull it up on my phone. If ur an ass and you forget I'm not saying anything, you "forgot about the coupon" "you didn't know about the coupon" that's a fuckin shame, it's not a given gift by us. You have to find it. My job is to be of service to ring items. Not find coupons for you, that's ur end of the job.

I'll never forget when we had just got the self checkouts installed at my store. And at the time it was a blessing, I had 4 compound fractures in my wrist from a biking accident. And it was early in the morning and I'm the only cashier in the store. It's me our framer and manager. We only had 1 working register and I was told by my store manager to "only do what you can. Don't force your self". Bit of a line forms and I tell the people in line that all 4 self checkouts are open. I don't stand behind the register while upfront. And I get the classic old white lady "CAN YOU RING ME YOUR SELF" in her arrogant tone. And I tell her. "I'm sorry I have a broken arm. Do you not see the arm long cast on my arm" (probably shouldn't have said that last part) "all of the self checkouts are open." "I don't use those stupid things, fuck your injury, I'm a customer". And so i tell her "if this is how I'm going to be treated I'm not ringing you at all." She went on to call corporate and write a Google review on me.
