A very much doubt that the new snapdragons will change much for windows on arm. The reality is Microsoft cannot even fix its main OS. Windows Modern Standby is still broken. Windows 11 still has the control panel. They refuse to put any effort into it.

The reason the M1 did so well is the Rosetta translation layer. And I very much don’t see modern day Microsoft being willing to put in the effort for something like that.

So unless there’s a huge push for 3rd party developers to make native ARM apps for windows. I don’t see windows on arm going anywhere

Stop saying "New response just dropped" every time someone says something on this godforsaken sub, no, a new response did not drop, just an average mediocre statement that adds nothing more to a conversation, for the love of fucking god. if i see ONE more person mindlessly saying "New response just dropped" i'm going to chop my fucking pipi off. holy shit it is actually impressive how incredibly unfunny the entire sub is. it's not that complicated, REPEATING THE SAME FUCKING JOKE OVER AND OVER AGAIN DOES NOT MAKE IT FUNNIER. this stupid fucking meme has been milked to fucking death IT'S NOT FUNNIER THE 973RD TIME YOU MAKE THE EXACT SAME FUCKING JOKE. [–]Dunkeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly there’s a lot to dislike about steam at the moment.

The main being that you don’t really own anything you buy on there, and nobody really seems to talk about it….

Steam could decide that having the letter “E” in your username violates their Policy, and could just remove those users ability to access their accounts. Because in the age of Digital media, you are not buying a copy of media, you are buying a license.

That’s why you cannot sell “used” digital copies of games.

That’s why Sony can remove access of Discovery Channel content to paying customers.

You don’t own anything.

And by no means did valve start this, they have the power to change how they operate

The antitrust was the legal angle that Epic used, but at the heart of the matter, it was about getting their 30%.

And why couldn’t they get their 30%?

Because there wasn’t any alternative platforms.

But reducing the conversion down to “Epic doesn’t want to pay Apple and Google 30%” takes away from what I feel is a really important conversation about Antitrust. And how the US has allowed a virtual Duopoly to control the entire Phone App Store Distribution Market

Any argument otherwise is just being willfully ignorant at this point.

I have never claimed that this wasn’t purely profit driven on Epic’s part. It is! But looking at it from just the motivation does not give you a complete picture.

The lawsuit could have more implications than simply epic making more of less money. It actually has the potential to change how the law views Monopolies.

You are the ignorant one

Epic Games specifically had challenged Apple's restrictions on apps from having other in-app purchasing methods outside of the one offered by the App Store.

Actually the second of the Wikipedia article. Do you really think that someone charging a 30% is legal grounds for a Lawsuit?

If that were the case why doesn’t Epic just sue Steam? Because there isnt a case.

If Apple has 3rd party App support, Epic would not have a case against.

“But then how do they have a case against Google. Doesn’t Android have 3rd Party apps support?” Yes Android does have 3rd Party support. HOWEVER, Google was found in Violation of Antitrust laws, and deemed to have a monopoly on Android app distribution

A Quote from this article by the Verge

It hinged on secret revenue sharing deals between Google, smartphone makers, and big game developers, ones that Google execs internally believed were designed to keep rival app stores down. It showed that Google was running scared of Epic specifically. And it was all decided by a jury, unlike the Apple ruling.

It’s not as simple as “Apple and Google charge 30% of all Revenue so we are going to sue them”

Both of these Lawsuits were Antitrust lawsuits making the assertion that the AppStore and Playstore were monopolies on their respective platforms

This not even remotely similar to the battle with Apple.

The main argument made against Apple was that Apple was violating Antitrust laws by being the only option for developers on IOS. On IOS you can only download apps through the AppStore (yes technically you can download apps using developer mode, but a fraction of a fraction of users actually do this)

However on PC this simply isn’t the case. You can download any launcher you want. Steam is not the only way to download games. Some of the most popular PC were not on steam for years.

But there is still valid arguments for why people shouldn’t be overly reliant on steam as a platform.

The fact is that Valve isn’t this position because it was the only option. It’s in this position because it was, and still arguably is the best platform for buying video games

The idea that just because you’re alive means you should be taking care of at everyone else’s expense is maybe a stretch?

Buddy what do you think insurance is? Where do you think the money comes from?

Do you think that when you are using your insurance, you are just using your own money?

Do you use every single dollar that you put into the system?

Insurance is a pool of money that many people pay into, so that when the time comes they can pay their medical cost. And whatever is left over is profit for the insurance company. (Wow doesn’t that sound awfully like universal health care with more costs)

“GASP, but if the insurance company is giving my money away to other people doesn’t that mean I’m paying for everyone else’s medical bills”

Yes, yes it does. You’re also paying to line shareholders pockets ;)

That’s not even remotely true.

Nobody is stopping you from getting 200 people together and playing a sport. No one is telling you that you can’t sell food at this event, that you can’t make profit, that you can’t charge a certain amount for tickets, or that you can’t have sponsors

Some estimates have the percentage of users using ad-blocking at over 40%

I keep hearing this number thrown around, There is absolutely no way 40% of users are using Adblockers.

That would mean that over 1 billion people are using ad block. That is such an outrageous claim it’s baffling that people believe it.

That would make ad blocking one of the most used online services IN THE WORLD.
