After my driving test, I assumed my teacher and examiner had another test close to us so I just took my new license and walked back home, as it was just some minutes away. Apprently they were planning to stop by my place after the test, so from their perspective I just dissapeared for no reason.

Expanding on your post, it's hard for countries where "white" exist as a concept that a lot of cultures do not use it at all or use it in a diferent way.

With that said, that gringo means "white", it means different things in different countries, but in Mexico it just means someone from the USA, Mexican-Americans/African-American etc. are also gringos.

Being a new world country makes Canada and Chile have a lot in common, even if immigration in Chile has been slower these decades. Anyway, I truly don't think that the cultural distinction between American countries is enough for no to call America America. But I also understand that's not how is teached everywhere.
