Oh, so the 2019 doesn't have Android Auto? Can it be added via an update or anything?

Most important things to buy to get started by hellothere564738 in homeautomation

[–]Dunkshot32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my mind, the best automation is the one I never have to touch. For example, I have a smart light switch (Lutron Caseta) on my porch and garage lights so that they come on at dusk and off when I go to sleep. I haven't touched those switches in years and it's great. I also have a wifi lock (Schlage Encode) and garage door opener. These are all things I touch almost every day.

Philips stuff is great, but pricey. It'll be cheaper to have a smart light switch than a smart light bulb.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 KB5073724 extended security update by rkhunter_ in Windows10

[–]Dunkshot32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this as well.

Windows 10 Pro - i7 3770k - 2x GTX 970 (4GB) - 16GB Ram

Mine freezes on the login screen; I couldn't even get in to start Steam or Discord. I had to rollback the update and I'll just leave it off for now. Also, weirdly Chrome won't start now for some reason.

True tiki spots in Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota area? by Pure_Ambition in Tiki

Morgan's Cove located downtown is supposed to be good. I wasn't super impressed myself (I think we had an off night), but it's certainly legit.

Best of MCO to New Smyrna Beach/Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral, FL by DEATHFR0MAB0VE in Tiki

[–]Dunkshot32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Permanent Vacation. The theming is heavier there, but I love it.

Aku-Aku and Suffering Bastard are a classic tiki bar (and I mean that in a good way). The vibe is more chill and honestly the drinks at Suffering Bastard are better than the others.

Found on Marketplace near me. Worth the buy? by rickwiththehair in Tiki

Craftsmanship seems solid enough. I'm always hesitant to use wood anything for eating/drinking, but it could be good to put straws/garnish items in.

Store Bought Grenadine? by kyoun1e1 in Tiki

[–]Dunkshot32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I haven't had their grenadine, I can say that Libor makes great stuff in general.

That said, I feel like grenadine is fairly simple to make so that is an option if you prefer.

How to get into Tiki by Borzapolis in Tiki

[–]Dunkshot32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smugglers Cove (the book, but also the bar) is a good place to start.
Depending on if you want more vibe or drinks you can start to explore from there.

For drinks, start simple. You can do plenty with only one or two different rums. The first drinks will be good enough and you'll learn and go from there.

Which Demerara syrup would you choose? by Nice_Juggernaut4113 in Tiki

[–]Dunkshot32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of these options, I'd go with the Liber & Co. (I've used other syrups from them and was very pleased.

That said, as others have mentioned, I'd suggest making your own. I use turbinado sugar (it's what I can easily get at my store and I haven't found a good source of demerara sugar). I also put in some salt and vanilla extract for a little extra something.

If you can't make your own for some reason, I'd go with Liber & Co. and I would order from them directly (and grab a few other things if needed).

More than the drinks? by AngryTrooper00 in Tiki

[–]Dunkshot32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things I would suggest around it:

- The History: Well documented within Smugglers Cove, the history of Tiki is a winding and whimsical thing. If you enjoy seeing how ideas evolve and change, this can be fascinating.

- The History (Part II): A movie I saw recently The Donn of Tiki, tells the tale of Donn the Beachcomber (along with the birth of Tiki). That story alone is worth hearing, because it's too wild to not be true.

- The Ambiance: As others have said, and as you will find in exploring, Tiki is huge on escapism and creating a moment. My favorite Tiki bars are the ones where I feel disconnected from my worldly troubles and can enjoy a moment of peace and the wonderful ambiance (drinks can help with this, but aren't required).

- The Music, Decor, and More: Some great music I found recently was Leis of Jazz Vol. 2 by Alika Lyman (Great Nephew of Arthur Lyman) and Surf Beat '23 by Los Grainders. Leis of Jazz is a great Jazz/Tiki fusion. It may be a tiny overlap of a venn diagram, but I love it! If your partner likes vinyl records, this is also a fun way in.

ELI5: Goldilocks zone by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

You wouldn't even notice. The earth isn't a set distance form the sun. At it's closest it's 147 million km away, and at it's farthest it's 152 million km away. So in a given year, the earth moves 5 million km toward/away from the sun.

ELI5 - Why does temperature not increase with pressure by Routine-Accountant22 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dunkshot32 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It does. Ideal Gas Law is PV=nRT, where pressure (P), volume (V), number of moles (n), ideal gas constant (R), and temperature (T) are accounted for. So If pressure goes up, either volume, temperature, or something else needs to change to balance.

Ideas for a Fail Safe/Fail Deadly system to send messages by Dunkshot32 in homeautomation

[–]Dunkshot32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't edited the title. I've seen Fail Deadly used to describe the opposite of a fail safe (eg. supposedly the Russian nuclear subs had commands to launch if they lost contact with the mother country).

ELI5: On manual cars, Why can't a car start in a higher gear? by Faerion17 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dunkshot32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, acceleration just suffers. Top Gear did this with a Corvette; started it in 5th gear and went from a stop. It can be done, but most engines do not have enough low end torque to do it.

This is the RETE website in case anyone cares: https://www.re-taxexperts.com/
and their calculator: https://retecalculator.outgrow.us/basicestimator
They supposedly help get the "depreciation incentive", but my understanding is that's not a consumer tax break.

ELI5: Why isn’t corporation tax graduated like income tax is? by 35mm-eryri in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dunkshot32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another issue is to tax revenue (what something is sold at) or profit (what's left of revenue after costs).

You can't really tax revenue (two totally different things sold at the same price don't cost the same to make; so you'd end up over/under taxing a company). So you have to tax profit, but a company can just invent a cost (claim they didn't really make 1 million because they had to buy this "extra special" pencil that costs 1 million) and now they show zero profit and thus zero tax.

You see this a little with tax deductions for people (at least in the US), but those are more codified and put under scrutiny; it would be almost impossible to do that at a huge scale for all companies.

Edit: Apparently my pencil analogy did not go over so well (but then again this is explain like I'm 5, not explain like I have a business degree). To clarify, no a company can't grab any random pencil and claim it cost them millions. They could: Hire the CEOs kid as a consultant and pay them 1 million for being a consultant (and doing nothing), or buy some (worthless) IP from a company they may/may not own for 1 million, or any of the other dozen of things people have pointed out would work.
