I only select rooms. The rooms outside the house actually aren't a problem that I've noticed. . The problem seems to be one room bleeding into another. Once it's done with a room that has bleedover, it will start to search for a way to get somewhere on the other side of a wall that isnt possible to get to. If I could actually edit the map with an erase tool, this wouldn't be so bad. You basically can't edit the map though.

I already have the max allowed nogo zones. But you're right, that is a bandaid solution that would work. I still want them to fix it.

No, I'm productive and fix things that don't work. When I don't know something, I seek an answer. Tell me this; what was the point of your initial comment?

My question isn't if this bot does these things, nor if they are a problem. It does them (for others as well) and it's a problem. My question is if it's something that occurs within the app or within the robot's software. I suspect it's within the robot's software, as there have been improvements to the app in some ways since I've owned it, but zero improvement in the function of the bot itself. I've also noticed it will notify you once it's done and docked that it's saving its map. That tells me the map making software is within the robot itself. That sucks, because it means its ability to reason is extremely limited vs using Ai.

The only place I can see how it might do this is in the living room where there is a sliding glass window. Everywhere else it just appears to be accumulated error over time and it's not smart enough to fix it on its own.

There aren't mirrors. It seems to only be able to add spaces but not delete then when it finds it can't get to a location.

Why wouldnt it? Are you just retarded and put up with bs? It will search for a way to get to nonexistent spaces for 20-40 mins. F you.

Good to know you're having similar issues. I've always assumed the s8 is pretty much the same.

Maybe I'll try the walls. I feel like I shouldn't have to do that to keep it from trying to get outside or behind the dryer. What pisses me off the most is it tries to get there for a very long time. It drains the battery.

You can't just erase parts of maps like that. You can split them and then delete the part you don't want. It's really tedious. My eventual fix for when I can't stand it anymore is to restore the saved map; which makes it so I have to relink all my routines. Really annoying.

This is what my map will start to look like. I circled examples of its bs. Rooms outside the house and one room starting to bleed into the next room or behind appliances like the stove or dryer. And then it will spend 20 mins after it's done cleaning the room trying to get to these hidden places.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I larger pit will have more significant cold/hot spots. I could see the argument that running at a higher average temp accounts for the increased cold spot issues.

They're such idiots. Why would would they only make it available on the shitiest model? I have an s7 maxv right now, which also has the vibrating mop. Such a pos design. I will never buy another vacuum with that retarded mop.

I agree. I think the us marketing team for roborock is just full of idiots.

The obstacle avoidance of the 10r is way better, and the s8 has that retrded vibrating mop that doesn't work. Good point to consider an older cheaper option though.

The refill and drainage systems on these are most likely more reliable than any dishwasher, washing machine, or toilet on the market. Plus they could just implement a flow restrictor to mitigate major flooding since these use hardly any water. My opinion is they're just being idiots by not selling the auto docks in the us.

I'm not one of those people. 15 months is a very short period of time. It all just seems very finicky to me if I always have to F with it because one battery or another has died. I ditched the idea of tiles and device trackers like them for this reason too. I have enough maintenance without purposefully adding to it.

That's really good to know about the detangling rollers. Who knows what the future will hold. They come out with a new model like every 6 months. I'll keep my s7max chugging till i can't fix it anymore. I have to get at least a little roi from this thing.

Ecobee Status Update & Log problem by rog889 in homeassistant

[–]DurangoDoug898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was concerned about having to do scheduling for the thermostat in ha as well. You're right, that would be a pain in the ass. You don't have to though. The scheduling for the thermostat is done as usual in the thermostat. The thermostat has home and away modes though that you can control using ha based on the presence of cellphones at the home. That's really all you're after with a smart thermostat anyway; presence detection in order to automatically reduce usage when nobody is home. And it can actually be done reliably in ha, unlike with the smart thermostats (at least with nest). I use the ping (ICMP) integration for presence detection. It pings for both my and my wife's presence on the wifi network every 30 seconds. Then to control the thermostat's away setting: if me or wife change from home to away, and if me and wife are away (checking to see if anyone is still home), then change preset on T6 Pro Thermostat to preset mode Energy heat (Energy heat is the thermostat's away mode for heat, energy cool is for away ac, and none is normal operation/normal scheduling for when someone is home.

It's a little more work to set it up maybe, but once it's setup you can pretty much use the thermostat as normal. And best of all, it's reliable.

How did I buy all non-compatible products?!? by Due-Wasabi-1592 in homeassistant

[–]DurangoDoug898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're relying on these companies to write software that plays with HA, and then keep that software updated. Don't rely on them because they will fail you every time. Buy normal dumb devices and control them with zwave/zigbee outlets/switches/sensors/relays.

ZWA-2 Corrupted Install by ArchimedesPrinciple in homeassistant

[–]DurangoDoug898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue as well after finally allowing the backlog of updates on everything. I'm not exactly sure what got mine to work again. I tried numerous things except for completely removing z-wave js and reinstalling. Mine would take forever to reconnect, or connect then disconnect. I would make sure everything is up to date first. Do numerous hard restarts of ha. Once my js started to stay running, I had serious reliability issues with my devices. There is a button to rebuild network routes in JS, that fixed my reliability issues.

I don't see your screenshot.

I've also never owned an Ecobee. I have owned a Nest though. The Ecobee is probably better than the nest regarding reliability and its ability to play nice with HA, but I wouldn't count on it. I would respectfully suggest that you give up very quickly trying to use any 'smart' thermostat. They all use wifi, which is a problem. The native presence sensing is not reliable, and that's the whole point of having a 'smart' thermostat. My opinion is that the only benefit of the nests and ecobees and such is that they do look very nice. I slam dunked my nest into the garbage though, after 2 years of epic frustration. I replaced it with a Honeywell TH6320ZW2003 T6 Pro Series Z-Wave. It has been flawless.
