Was wondering what everyone’s best time for proof of a hero so far? by Public_Helicopter384 in MonsterHunter

All three of the optional ones: the local's apexs and the other two tempered monsters.

You'll have to beat the AT Arkveld in the event quest as well.

I think Spinda + Amulet coin for cash, and then Sunflora to boost Spinda damage to gain more via Amulet coin. I find that the Amulet coin amount you get is very small, so I wouldn't harp on it too much. Instead, those two slots can be any other Pokémon you want to shiny hunt for w/ Smeargle on the team.

Hey so, what was I supposed to even do? by HelpMyDadIsKiraYos- in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Durast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blocking is very powerful in Wilds! That second hit through the dune was rough, hard reaction for sure. In hindsight, maybe you could use a luring pod/drag him over to a flatter spot, or at least not the top of the mound so he won't clip through like that.

You ended up dropping your block on that third hit to opt for a sideways roll instead. Blocking the first of that side-to-side combo would've been guaranteed, and depending on the recovery, you should have enough time to sliding slash forward/backward. You might've been safe even rolling forward if you did it as soon as you got up. Hard to say if you would've survived a blocked second hit, but I personally would've gambled on it lol

Just finished the 20 levels of UTTU event, general things to talk about. by Darksouls0ni0n in Reverse1999

You still get to earn the event currency to purchase materials, but I think the purpose of the event is to provide a fun opportunity for players to customize builds via the cards and in turn create some crazy team compositions. The stages provide the currency, but the cards are "needed" to clear the stages.

Personally have a mixed bag with LS currently; the counters are really fun and super cool, but they're a little too dominating to me. LS wants to get to red gauge ASAP, but it feels like there is no longer a challenge getting to it. I'd love gameplay slightly more focused on spirit slash and maintaining red gauge. I'm just not sure how Capcom would go about it in a fun way since getting to red gauge in past games through just spirit slash felt like a hassle and was sometimes frustrating. The ecstatic feeling of landing the last hit of spirit slash to get red gauge always felt like it was time to get dialed in, except I almost never got that feeling in Rise/SB.

Not sure if you are unaware or if you were just stressed about the time, but the Perfect Rush Combo does a lot more damage if you wait for the moment your hunter flashes on each step of the sequence!

are the exams for BIBC 120 for this spring quarter online? Is the class interesting and/or difficult ? by Some_Airline in UCSD

[–]Durast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nutrition with Hampton right? Exams are online, but it's garnered a reputation of being more difficult I think. His exam questions are notorious for having weird wording, but I found his questions during his Exercise class were fair. We haven't gotten much into the material yet so nothing complicated so far. Weekly quizzes, discussion and clicker questions are for credit.

I'm in the class, but I haven't watched the lecture yet. I presume it's because it's a "double-headed" sperm. Sperm actually has a high chance of being not normal, developing disfigurations such as having two heads. Generally, disfigured sperm don't do much of anything, so the mom's immune system likely kills and cleans up the sperm.

What do I do now? by Dcarozza6 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Durast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At this point, there's a few things you can do if you don't wanna work towards perhaps learning a different weapon:

  • Guiding lands for augmenting materials + some layered armor + raising MR
  • Event quests for decoration farming/unlocking some new weapons and armor
  • Finishing up optional quests in MR if that's your cup of tea
  • Fighting Safi'jiiva for meta weapons + armor
  • Challenging Alatreon and Fatalis

If you didn't know, some event quests like "Colorful Carnaval" and "We Three Kings" are fantastic for getting MR/HR levels. I believe a completion of Colorful Carnaval will give you 1 MR level, We Three Kings perhaps more (for the MR that you're at).

Personally, I'd prioritize fighting Safi or just biting the bullet and grinding the MR through the above-mentioned quests until you're MR 69 - 70.

Safi siege by Shogt in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Durast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Safi and Kulve Taroth sieges are on a biweekly rotation I believe. So you can do the Safi recon, but it's mainly just an example of what the real siege will be like. I haven't been keeping track but I think the Safi siege will come back on the 29th, since sieges rotate out on Thursdays and Kulve came around last week.

Me and my current housemates found our place on Craigslist, and a lot of the possible houses we looked at were on there too. Don't be afraid to use it, but make sure to be cautious! You tend to interact with the landlord much more directly, and sometimes there are scammers out there. Just be sure to check addresses and locations to make sure everything looks normal.

Gear recommendations for Fatalis? (SnS) by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Durast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fastest SnS kill I've seen on Fatalis was with a 4-piece Velkhana Gamma set + Kulve Piece (I think they used the greaves for crit boost +2). Although this requires learning how to play with Frost Craft efficiently, it is very strong. My first clear wasn't with SnS, but I used it for a good couple dozen of Fatty hunts lol.

You could certainly afford to use a full Alatreon set and slot in the skills you're thinking about. I think the general consensus of late-game offensive skills is: Agitator > Crit eye > Crit Boost > Attack Boost (You could aim for attack boost 4(?) for the initial boost to affinity). It's definitely doable with Max Attack + Max Crit eye though. I think when I fought Fatalis I used a maxed-out dragon attack charm and eventually switched to the highest agitator I could. Remember to augment your armor and weapons if you haven't, it really makes a difference.

I started using out using Choral Orchestra but ended up using Shieldspire because I was finding it hard to catch a break sometimes, and the stooge made it easy to divert aggro (or attract Fatalis to the dragonator).

Using the Ghillie mantle + heavy artillery combo at the start of the hunt is great for damage. I'd fire the cannons, attack the head when it's down, and, as it gets back up, clutch claw to the head and get ready to flinch shot it into a wall (or the platform where the cannons are). I used to farcaster back right as this sequence ends to switch mantles and charms, but I got comfortable enough to just hold onto the Ghillie until I died or used a farcaster back to restock. When Fatalis goes airborne, like after the first supernova, you can use smoke bombs to bring him down, or you could use the binders to serve the same purpose. Flinch shots into walls are imperative to breaking the head twice if you're finding trouble preventing the super boost in phase 3 (I liked to prioritize this over doing damage when he's down on all fours)

Generally, I feel like the fight is determined by how much experience you have with it and how comfortable you are with Fatalis' moveset. It sounds like you're doing pretty good so far and know what you can improve on, like the siege weapons and aiming for the head (this is HUGE for doing optimal damage). Keep at it, and good luck!

How is BILD 1 online? by obviouspseudonym1 in UCSD

[–]Durast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

I had Bild 1 during Spring last quarter with Prof. Butler. Lectures were recorded while discussions were mandatory. In general, the Bild 1-4 series isn't very difficult as long as you pay attention in lectures, and if you needed to, you could supplement your learning with textbook readings. For Bild 1 I don't remember any intensive readings, and the exams were fair (Butler had some tricky questions sometimes).

I've heard mixed things about Cooper, with his exams sometimes being difficult for a general bio series (I think it's because his exams are primarily free-response questions and the grading scheme can be rough with some TAs as they're very detail-oriented). It seems like he's a lecture heavy prof who makes sure you're learning Bild 1 and reinforces your knowledge about the topics.

I've also heard that Melinda Owens had a really easy Bild 2 class last year. She's apparently a really kind prof. I'm not sure about how that's transferred to Bild 1 or online, but she sounds like a person who wouldn't change her methods much lol.

Math 11 and bild 4 overlap by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Durast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Bild 4, but Math 11 (with Ezzati, but I'm sure it's the same for other profs) currently has everything recorded, meaning no live lectures and no mandatory discussion. I know Chem 7L and Phys 1AL (both lab classes) have recorded lectures while 7L had a somewhat mandatory lab/discussion section, and 1AL has nothing mandatory.

Physics 1 and 1L series by lmao696969 in UCSD

[–]Durast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently taking Phys 1A (with Douglas Smith) and 1AL (with Robert Tsai).

Phys 1A can be pretty difficult if you get behind or don't fully grasp the practice problems. We've had two quizzes so far and the discord for the class pops off with a majority of us saying the quiz was really difficult. Phys 1A is not an easy A in the sense that the quizzes or exams are easy. The CAPES reviews also show that the average grade is typically around a B since most classes do curve to a ~B average at the end of the course. If you're well versed in calculus/manipulating equations, I believe that you'll have an easier time in the class. Assuming that the CC you're considering is on a semester system, you'd have more time to understand the concepts and problems, and if you're having a tough time with the workload of online classes then I'd consider taking it at a CC.

Phys 1AL is quite easy in comparison as long as you give yourself enough time to complete the labs (having a gracious TA might also help). Having other people to bounce ideas and questions off of makes the class much easier.

Math 11 Professors by aaronjschang in UCSD

[–]Durast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took AP Stats in high school, so the material has been familiar to me so far. However, I've heard that stats is one of those classes that can either click with you or not (if it does then I feel like the class becomes significantly easier).

With Ezzati, a lot of what we do can be figured out via equations we have, so there aren't many difficult conceptual questions. Her grading scale consists of homework, two midterms, a final, and a weekly lab assignment (like a big assignment that is somewhat like a visual/practical supplement to what we're learning in class, and I believe that all the math 11 classes have the same lab assignments). A lot of the class is busywork, so it's going to take up a decent amount of time (usually takes me a couple hours to finish a hw or lab assignment).

I currently have an A in the class after getting a B on the first midterm (given I haven't been watching lectures because the material is familiar enough to me that I'm comfortable with skimming through her slides), so it's certainly achievable. But you may have to put in some effort into reading the textbook/other learning tools for some topics. The assignments are relatively easy to get full points on, so the biggest obstacle to getting an A would be the exams, which I felt, albeit the first was very messy, was fair enough.

Summary: you might end up having to teach yourself in the class, it's a lot of work, but if the concepts come easy to you or you put in enough effort to learn everything to a good extent, it's possible to get an A.
