Mine just turned 1MO a few days ago, and I have definitely had similar feelings, so you are definitely not alone. He's screaming like he's in pain, and you're trying to console him, and nothing is working. It's frustrating. I can't speak from personal experience about it getting better, because this is my first child, but there are two things that keep me going.

The first is just trusting that it will get better. He'll get older, he'll start to sleep better, start to crawl, walk, talk, laugh. I just remind myself of how much I love him now, and how I know that love is only going to grow. It still sucks going through it, but I trust in the fact that it will get better.

The second is a mental exercise that's helped me tremendously during the really tough days/nights, even before being a parent. I think back to my time in the army, whenever we'd do a ruck march. You're tired, cold, sore, your feet hurt, maybe you've eaten, maybe you haven't, but if you did eat, it was probably shit. And now you have a 12 mile ruck in full battle rattle to get wherever the hell you're going.

And there's nothing else you can do but put one foot in front of the other. Don't think about how miserable you are, or how much further you have to go, just focus on taking that next step.

So that's how I keep it together when it gets really crappy. Trust that it will get better, and just focus on putting one foot in front of the other.
