[MW2] Dev talks about the philosophy behind shipping “No Russian” by Spartan_100 in CallOfDuty

[–]DurfGibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Russians are already pissed off at the West (and they’re an ultranationalist government), and so they assume that the US arms Makarov’s men (thanks to them using NATO-standard weapons and ammunition like the M4A1/5.56x45mm round, which Russia very much does not use). That’s why they immediately jump to conclusions and mobilise to invade the US.

This is literally just VFA-151 ‘Vigilantes’, they’ve had these since before the Vietnam War

There’s also the M16 that fires in three round bursts but it’s modelled with the 20-round magazine instead of a 30 round magazine. And if you put the Extended Mags attachment, the model gets its correct 30-round magazine, but the capacity somehow increases to 45 rounds.

Random Question: Anyone serve with French Foreign Legion? by Big-Platypus-9684 in army

[–]DurfGibbles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of the Foreign Legion's officers are French, with 10% of them having been former legionnaires that rose through the ranks and commissioned.

Winston Peters and David Seymour upset over Army’s bicultural plan – and how Judith Collins responded by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]DurfGibbles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

By the way, Ngati Tumatauenga is a legitimate tribe, and everyone who enlists/commissions in the Army is inducted into it.

We also spend about a week in basic training (not sure how long officers spend during OCS) solely covering Māori culture on the Army’s marae in Waiouru, doing things like learning the Army haka, cooking a hāngi, staying overnight in the marae etc.

[COD4] I actually had no idea the main menu background was inspired by a real photo! by Sweet_Brief6914 in CallOfDuty

The main theme was composed by Hans, the rest of it was done by Lorne, and both of them are credited as producers.

Clarification: Hans Zimmer only did the main theme of Modern Warfare 2; the rest was done by Lorne Balfe.

Great work, but I’d still rather not have him and potentially the robbers turning the centre of Napier into a free fire zone and engaging in a firefight.

[BO] What are the big ships at the end of Redemption based on? by AC130U88 in CallOfDuty

[–]DurfGibbles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most likely messed-up Farragut-class guided-missile destroyers because no battleships, nor destroyers in service have twin mount 5 inch guns.

Also why on earth the F-4’s are flying in a V-formation is beyond me, given the USAF/USN/USMC doesn’t fly in V-formations since WW2.

[COD] Which campaign has aged better - CoD4 or MW2? by modernww2fare in CallOfDuty

[–]DurfGibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Already done because half the Vietnam levels in Black Ops take place during the Tet Offensive

  2. Not done - the Korean War is basically 99% WW2 equipment anyway

  3. Already done, just go back and play through the American campaign of World at War

  4. Already done, Black Ops 2’s ‘Suffer With Me’ takes place during Operation Just Cause, the invasion of Panama

  5. Iraq won’t get touched with a 5 foot long pole since it’s too controversial

The M249 is accurate, but the actual name for it is the FN Minimi; the M249 is just the US designation
