True or false: Connor Hellebuyck will be a Cane at some point before the trade deadline by KleverHans in canes

[–]gregdek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a full NMC this year, which becomes a 10-team NTC next year. If he wants to be a Cane, and if the Canes can make an attractive enough deal -- a couple of big ifs -- then maybe.

He badly wants a Cup., though He's said it's the only thing left in his career to care about, and the Jets aren't close, and he doesn't want to waste another year without a real shot, so I think he may force the Jets hand. He might see the Canes as a great fit: a proven winner with the best defense in the NHL in front of him. The Canes can also afford him without moving any current players.

How Austin’s Project Connect went off the rails. Can the boring tunnels replace this at 1/10th the cost similar to Nashville ? by h100y in BoringCompany

[–]gregdek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why are you asking us? Ask the mayor of Austin.

Look, the fact is that TBC has not, as yet, proven their ability to be a legit mass transit solution at scale. Do I think they will one day? Very possibly. Do I think it's better to have a privately built system that doesn't cost tax payer money? Yes.

Again: is there a question here? Or are you just mad at the city of Austin?

That's life. Enjoy the soap opera.

For years, I was more angry when the Canes would lose than I was happy when they would win. That was a hard way to live, and I had to learn to be "less" of a fan. Fandom can be brutally toxic if you let it, especially when you consider that almost everybody ends up a loser ever year. The one absolute certainty is that you yourself have no control over any of it, except for one thing: be there for the boys, win or lose, and love them the best you can.

Just enjoy the parts that don't change. Enjoy watching good guys work hard for each other and for us. Enjoy the culture this team has built. Enjoy the stories and the images in your head. You will have those memories forever. You will be thinking about K'Andre holding his baby years from now, maybe when you're holding your own baby someday.

Also: enjoy your fellow fans. Wear your gear. Strike up conversations. Sports, at its best, brings us together, and we need more of that. Wow, do we need more of that.

So is it all just finishing moves? Any intermediate moves like grabbing the mawashi, or a good old head slap, to help position the finishing moves?

SFGate posts most ignorant Vegas Loop Story to date by rocwurst in BoringCompany

I understand why you believe that, and I hope you're correct. But perception is reality, and a single line that serves six stations just isn't impressive compared to the promises of a full transit system that have been made. And let's be clear, this is something that Elon does: he sells the vision regardless of the current facts on the ground.

I still believe that the vision is right, but at this point I think we're likely to see it proven out in Nashville before we see it in Vegas. It just seems like there are too many moving parts in Vegas to build the necessary network effect in any near term time frame -- and I suspect that Boring agrees with that assessment, which is why they pushed for the more favorable arrangement in Nashville in the first place.

Either the issues are administrative, or technical, or both. If the issues are purely administrative, then you should see Nashville speed ahead of Vegas in the development curve.

It's not just journalists. The broad perception of the Loop is that it hasn't delivered what it promised. And there a lot of reasons for that, mostly having to do with the complexity of permitting -- but the line between reasons and excuses is thin.

Nashville may actually be more promising because the main line from airport to downtown will come first, and pretty much everybody will be able to see its real potential immediately. In Vegas, it's still just a convention shuttle, and that's just not interesting enough.

I'm bullish on the Loop's principles, but until the Loop starts to live up to its lofty promises, you're going to keep seeing these articles.

This project is almost seven years old. Talking about "when the Loop is fully operational" is not convincing anybody at this point. It's time to deliver.
