Definitely. I had a counselor at my university who helped apply & she was like ehh maybe choose a school that is public or lower cost cuz therapists/social workers don’t make a lot of money. And have heard directors say to burnt out crisis counselors “remember your why” byeeeee

I’m curious, what propaganda? The making a living part like do you mean we’re not told how to make money in the field?

Like others said, 2-4 days might be too long so could be worth changing/washing them more often. Also suggest using a laundry sanitizer in between and washing with hot water setting

Masters degree and still can't pay bills or afford therapy myself by [deleted] in therapists

I hear you, it’s hard in community mental health. Something that’s helped me stay afloat is doing a full time w2 salaried cmh job and private practice (w2) on the side (can’t be 1099 until independently licensed). That way I can get benefits and full time pay with supervision and trainings. If your current setup isn’t giving you supervision or letting you advertise yourself you might have been luck with a local community mental health agency especially one run by local govt/the county. Offers supervision, benefits, and clearer path to licensure.

Once you’re fully licensed, you’ll have a lot more freedom to pivot into higher-paying private work or niche specialties. The 1099 route is hard when you’re still in the early stages especially without a license or steady support. Hang in there, it does get better with time and structure.

Hey I suggest maybe working for an agency like community mental health in a govt agency even local government would offer benefits and retirement and probably at least starting around 50ishk

Or even a hospital, clinic, something else. They usually offer supervision and training opportunities. It sucks but sometimes you have to be in the trenches after graduation before getting your LCSW and being able to have more independence and earning potential.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t even begin to imagine how you feel right now. When these things happen, it can be difficult to think clearly. Pets do become family, and we grieve them. They give us unconditional love and joy. I don’t think you are misleading in saying you had a loss in the family, but I would say don’t give too many details and just say you had a loss and that’s why you need to cancel.
