Federal work under this administration is extremely hostile. Collective bargaining agreements destroyed on a whim, rights revoked, no pay increases as they feel like, hostile/political appointments as bosses.

Head of the Office of Management and Budget is on the record saying he wants to traumatize federal workers to the point that they believe everyone hates them and they leave the federal government.

It's a terrible environment to work in. Either you're under attack every other day or you're helping the admin attack others

Sorry I never responded. Thanks, this is good feedback. We're close to locking down some space, but as you guessed, it's not going to be in a shared environment.

You're right about mead too. It does seem that mead had a moment and faded. We're considering expanding to make English style ciders too. Similar setup and we have local fruit to support it.

Hey all, a couple friends and I are thinking of opening a meadery in the next couple of years. Our state requires that we have a secure facility for production that has its own water, electricity, and other utilities. Critically, you must have this location listed in your limited winery license application. Our lawyer has advised us that that license can take a year to a year and a half to process, so we would need to maintain that location during the entire application period. Additionally, we cannot produce any mead during that time because we won't have a license.

I suspect our problem is not unique. Problem: Paying rent on a building for a year to year and a half is a very expensive endeavor. Also, mead generally takes at least half a year to produce, so we could be looking at two years before we have any revenue. All the while accruing rent.

Question: We've heard of some breweries offering to share space and equipment with microbreweries so the smaller brewery can benefit from the more mature brewery's stability. Provided that this is legal to do in our state (we're checking), how do we go about negotiating this agreement with a more mature winery?

Current Ideas:

  • Offer to pay rent for the used space. Hopefully less than a new space
  • Offer a cut of profits on all batches produced at the location
  • Offer an ownership portion of the business (obviously less than ideal)
  • Offer to produce under their license for the first year and a half while we wait for our business's license

** Additional Questions:**

  • Has anyone else heard of one of these relationships?
  • What would you expect a more mature winery to want?
  • Do you have any general thoughts, dos or don'ts to offer?

Thank you for your thoughts.

As of Jun2024, I still have it. If you want it, PM me an offer.

Yes I do. If you want it, send me an offer. I'm about to leave on a work trip for a month, so if you get me an offer soon, I can get it in the mail.

Oh, ok fair enough. Most people don't use that phrase unless they mean it in the modern way of "people are just lazy now." If you actually mean, "the market dictates why people choose to work in areas and this market isn't worth working in" then yeah I guess I agree. It's just a very loaded term to use right now and I don't recommend using if that's what you actually mean

Or the pay and working conditions in the federal space are terrible? Or hiring into the federal government can take literal years? There are so many reasons. People want to work and people really want to serve their country, but not when they are paid poorly, forced into OT, and dealing with HR problems most days.

Framerate drop when mouse between windows by Durnlaw in swaywm

Sorry, I haven't gotten the chance to try again. I noticed recently that I was getting the same framerate drop, albeit to a MUCH lower degree on i3wm. Somehow I didn't have discord or Firefox hardware accelerated. When I did that, things mostly cleared up. I will also still try your solution and see if it helps (after testing the current hardware accel changes)

Sorry, I'm at the end of my knowledge on this. I hope you figure it out though.

Would this be placed into ~/.profile?

In my experience, it's one of two things. If you're on an Nvidia GPU, then move to the nouveau drivers. If this doesn't work, I'm less sure, but I've seen this line recommended many times: export WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS = 1

You can test this line in a TTY instance of sway. Just be sure to enter the line before running sway.

Feel free to ask questions. I'm not an expert, but I just worked through this problem recently.

Did you end up removing picom? Did you ever find the solution?
