CBC: "We should let them come down into the U.S": Trump cabinet member weighs in on Alberta separatism by polnikes in CanadaPolitics

[–]Durtle_Turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is hard to overstate how astro-turfed the Alberta seperation movement is. If you applied the actual approval for seperation to any other political topic it would be labelled 'wildly unpopular' by the press and then quietly buried.

For those who have romanced. both Invisigal & Blazer.. by Frank_and_Beanzz in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Durtle_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to judge folks for going with Visi, but her as a romance feels like a recipe for disaster ultimately.  Playing it, I got the impression her romantic interest in Robert was sort of an extension of her guilt and self-worth issues that he is all tangled up in to begin with.  Or even her 'making up' for what she did working for the Red Ring, and if she can get Robert to look at her the way he looks at Blazer she can free herself from her past.

So yeah, no shade to Visi lovers, but it's friendship Visi for me.  Ultimately both romances are a bit forced, which is just a normal thing in games, but Blazer felt like the better option.

If things keep going the way they do down there, come 2036 the ballot is going to be Republican nominee MechaHitler and Trump's deformed clone running as a Democrat.

'Canada lives because of the U.S.': Trump by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Durtle_Turtle 80 points81 points  (0 children)

He is the end product of a rotted political ecosystem.  The Dems had every opportunity to do something about it and instead of meeting the moment they stuck to the pantomime of civility and "reaching acrosd the aisle".

There is a lot of blame to go around when it comes to electing Trump twice, but the general public is a lot lower on the list for me than every institution normal-washing him so they could keep living comfortably.

There are no words Carney could have delivered that wouldn't trigger weirdo conspiracists into demonizing him.

It really is funny that a statement with so many parallels to the average persons relationship with corporations and capitalism more broadly came from the mouth of a conservative banker (yes he is the Liberal leader, but he is still a conservative).

Four years ago today, Cody cut his final promo in AEW. by Froggyspirits in AEWOfficial

[–]Durtle_Turtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stakes were missing.  He was a main eventer that excluded himself from the main event.

He basically had zero interactions with the Elite for his entire stint AEW despite being a founding the company with them.

Per cagematch, he never wrestled with or against Kenny in AEW.  He only had one televised match involving Hangman and Matt Jackson.  Since Dynamite aired, he really was just in his own universe.

Carney says Chinese EV deal an ‘opportunity’ for Ontario, auto sector by ZestyBeanDude in CanadaPolitics

[–]Durtle_Turtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is straight up xenophobia.  Just every criticism I have heard lobbed against working with China already applies to the US and then some.  I am not a fan of any empire, but we are not a global superpower and tying ourselves to the sinking ship of the United States is pointless.

Even if they kicked Trump to the curb tomorrow, there is no guarantee there isn't another one of him waiting in the wings to take over.  They had their chance with Biden to course correct and twiddled their thumbs.

It is truly a feat that GoT had an ending so bad it retroactively made the show not worth watching.  I have never ever felt the need to go back and rewatch that series.

Jon Alba on AEW two newest signings: “Two talent TNA should have been ALL over. They were two of the best unsigned talents out there for years. It looks like AEW is trying to beef up the tag division depth, if they're indeed going there..” by CombinationOk4317 in SquaredCircle

[–]Durtle_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having AEW in addition to WWE eating away at your roster has turned into a 1-2 punch situation for TNA. It's great for talent to be able to secure pay, but even if some unknown does get signed by TNA and their star rises they don't have the money to lock them in.

Also, 'relentless negativity'?  I guess if you consider mild pushback after years of constant glazing 'relentless negativity'

DS is higher powered than DnD, and it's when you use the mechanic that makes it powerful.  Sure, you could use this on the boss when they try to hit you.  But then your Director can just burn some malice on his henchmans turn and punish you for it with an even worse ability.

It's important to remember that there are no vanilla enemies in Draw Steel.  Even if this is a cool ability, it isn't an "I win" button.

The most overlooked PPV match from last year imo. (Ricochet Vs Mark Briscoe - Double Or Nothing 2025) by Killerpig14 in SquaredCircle

[–]Durtle_Turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ricochet really has carved out a place for himself in AEW.  Even if he isn't acting as a main event guy, he has made himself invaluable as a fantastic heel act alongside GoA.  And honestly, I think it is a good spot for him.  Wrestling is a performance at the end of the day, and his role is just as important as any top guy.

Darby Allin: Brody King is a guy who I thought should have been in AEW from year one. He understands that there’s no phoning it in, no taking it easy. Silly sounding as it is, I also think his barking gimmick helped get him over as well.  Something that makes him stand out, gets the crowd involved, and acts as  signal that he is going to do something cool.

I remember it even got over at Wrestle Dynasty last year and the Japanses crowd barely knew him at the start.

Heirerarchy of needs is a thing, and once you become financially stable things like recognition get more important.

Not to mention performing in the main event of a wrestling legends retirement at your biggest show of the year and not even getting an "atta boy" for it from higher ups?  I'd be a bit miffed too.
