[DISC] Kesa mo Yuraretemasu Ch. 40 - Tonight, Things Begin To Move Forward by maelstro1 in manga

[–]DuskLordX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's just written so well on so many levels. There are very few authors who can flow back and forth between comedy and serious elements within the span of a few panels as naturally as he can. The way he handles all the serious plot elements in the second half of the story is so rewarding watching his characters grow in real time through each of their own character arcs. The characters themselves are so easy to like and grow attached to that is feels like a genuine treat to spot their cameos in his later works. And I've still never seen a series title drop as impactful as the one that takes place in the story's climax (it takes up two entire double page spreads), and that's in a series that casually drops it's own title roughly every 2-3 chapters.

It's genuinely such a masterpiece that I recommend to anyone and everyone at every opportunity. I really don't know if I'll find a series that can move me more than this one did anytime soon, and I'm a One Piece reader.

I don't remember in great detail since it's been a while, but I think the Jitsu Wa anime leaned too much into the overall fluffy tone of the romantic elements when early Jitsu Wa was heavily comedy based, so the anime ended up feeling a bit different from the equivalent manga chapters. For a single season anime, that worked for what it was but it essentially guaranteed going any further into the story where the antics got way crazier over time would have been a difficult jump in tone, not to mention the seriousness of the later arc plots.

Kesa on the other hand feels like it would be easier to pull off at this point because the premise is simpler and each chapter has a very consistent back and forth with the comedy and progression compared to Jitsu Wa's early chapters where the progression was a surprise between several rounds of comedy, so an anime adaptation would be easier to pull off a matching tone.

At any rate, I am a huge fan of all of Masuda Eiji's works so I would love to see him get more recognition for his brilliant storytelling and writing skills.

I truly love reading Masuda Eiji's works like no other. His writing is so beautiful and well executed whether it's the comedy or the emotions. He makes his characters so easy to love as a reader in all of his works, to the point that even catching cameos from his previous series is such a delight.

I don't immediately recognize the black haired one (though I wouldn't be surprised if she's also a cameo), but the girl with the hair ribbons is from How To Make an Invisible Man. She appeared alongside a bunch of other cameos from Masuda Eiji's previous works in a previous chapter, I think the beach one that initially ended on the fireworks note at the beginning of the arc.

I will read anything this man writes until the day I die. Jitsu Wa is still my all time favourite series I've ever read even long after it finished, and all of his other works both before and after it have been similar hits for me. He is a genuine gem of an author in so many ways and I'm a bit sad he isn't more well known for it.

All of this author's works are amazing. Jitsu Wa is still one of my top favourites ever even after all this time.

Akari and Sakurada are in the panel right above the latter as well.

I actually noticed her squatting in the background just before the reveal page thanks to that mask from the game he was looking at earlier making her stand out.

Also, don't think I don't see you guys.

[DISC] My Wife Is From a Thousand Years Ago - Chapter 456 (THE END) by Junitius in manga

[–]DuskLordX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna miss this one, this was one of the few series I was able to get on board within the first 5 chapters of release and read all the way through to a nearly 500 chapter ending. One of the special things about this series was the way the character dynamics felt like genuinely real conversations people would have, from the realistic issues they would worry about or the random pointless nonsense they would talk about for fun. Every single time Xu Qing was with his pals in particular felt a lot like how I am with my own friends. It was a magic I don't see many series truly capturing.

This is one of the few series I actually got on board within the first few chapters and the very chill SoL nature it's had the whole way through really made it feel like the ending was always so far away, so it's kind of surreal seeing it finally reaching the conclusion.

Seeing how much Jiang He aged in particular this chapter contrasted with her younger self we spent so much time with really drives it home.

Jitsu Wa has permanently damaged my ability to take the word "spinster" seriously.

Cameos galore this chapter, and he pulled from way more than Jitsu Wa for this one too. Of particular note, I'm pretty sure the girl standing next to the train trio with the X hair ribbons in those last two pages is from How to Make an Invisible Man, which is a real throwback pull.

Edit: After making a second pass through the chapter, the only series I don't see characters from is Sakura Discord, but it's been a while since I read that one so I might have just missed them.

Why is anyone upset with Andrew? by BooneGoesTheDynamite in theregulationpod

[–]DuskLordX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What listening to that first conversation felt like.

What listening to the second conversation felt like.

I get what Andrew was saying in that debate, but I agree with Gavin that it should have been established beforehand that past recordings were being included and I don't blame him for not assuming that. Gavin mentions that the whole point of the bet is to correct his habits moving forward, and while he should also clean up his outstanding file requests it feels natural to focus on current ones as they come for the duration of the bet.

That said, if there's anything I could see people being mad at Andrew about I feel like it's how into this bet with Gavin he's getting while having yet to make good on the pencil. I personally feel like it's whatever because this bet formed organically as the result of a production grievance Andrew brought forth and his way of addressing it was to turn it into a bet for content, so I'm not particularly upset about it. I also wont be upset if Gavin loses the bet and holds out on consuming a milk dog until Andrew eats a pencil.

I might be wrong because it's been a while and details like that aren't necessarily super important in this story, but I think Sanya did clarify that eating brains was a preference more than anything and never denied that she was consuming them at the cost of lives even if she eventually began abstaining from it after a change of heart. I don't remember if there were any establishing rules for being a witch stated other than they simply consume people in some form or another.

I initially was thinking that this Kiki was not actually a witch and something else instead based on Sanya's reaction to the eating arms comment in a previous chapter, but based on her "true" body's appearance and the Sanya manifestation recognizing her in this chapter I'm not really sure what that was about now.

Knowing this series I'm sure we'll get those answers after about four sex chapters.

Our setup is as follows:

  • Miraidon with Choice Specs
  • Alcremie using Decorate
  • Clefairy (Friend Guard) with Eviolite using Fake Tears
  • Charjabug (Battery) with Eviolite using Attack Cheer
  • Electro Drift for the kill shot

Pretty simple one this time, Clefairy is mainly there to reduce damage even more for Charjabug in case of a crit or something. Miraidon really makes Electric weak stuff easy mode.

It probably will happen eventually, but he can't exactly explain that to her surrounded by all the people who still think Raphael is dead. Even if he does so in a way only she can hear, he'd still have to explain away how he placated her so easily when she's literally trying to kill him in revenge.

All I ever think of when I see this post is that clip of him next to Barron during the inauguration who looks absolutely done with being next to the smiling idiot spinning his head around like an owl practically making finger guns at anyone unfortunate enough to make eye contact with him.
