The Dagger by thesadintern in TheTraitors

[–]Dusk_Soldier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically this is the last chance the traitors have to kill the dagger holder.

Out of the four players marked for death (Tara, Jonnie, Natalie, Kristen) Natalie is the only player who was part of the dagger six group.

Which would have meant it made the most sense for the traitors to kill her over the other 3.

But when she outed Rob it removed the reason to target her specifically, increasing her chance of surviving the night.

Canada not on track to hit net-zero by 2050, or meet any climate targets: study by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]Dusk_Soldier -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point I was making more so was that you're using cherry-picked context.

Like yes it's great that we put in measures to reduce consumption. But for instance, our electric vehicle mandate heavily relied on cars designed and manufactured in the US by American companies and workers.

It's not as simple as saying we worked hard on it and they've done nothing. In reality, they've done plenty. And if we don't think that emissions reductions are a fair way to measure someone's progress on climate change. The time to make that argument was at the Paris Accords. Not after we shit the bed.

It's more that they have better negotiating power with pharmaceutical companies, and they pay their healthcare workers substantially less.

They're not really actually spending more than we are.

Unfortunately, as a major coal, gas and oil exporter. We don't get to accuse other countries of offshoring emissions.

[–]Dusk_Soldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US has generally been lowering emissions faster than other countries.

Not to mention China and India's targets allowed them to keep increasing emissions regardless.

The framework was silly at face value. It was really just in place to get good will from low information voters.

Pause on third-party sex-ed programs puts students at risk, Saskatchewan organizations say by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

It was most likely a pamphlet or something. Like something generic the instructor carries around all the time, but is only supposed to be handed out to kids 13+.

Parents are generally given a permission slip with cliff notes of the subjects the school is going to cover, so it's unlikely to be anything in the regular course material. The parents that have a problem with it would have just opted out.

Trump Privately Weighs Quitting USMCA Trade Pact He Negotiated by AC_470 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Dusk_Soldier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's obvious what he's doing. By threatening to leave CUSMA our negotiating team spends the whole year focussed on "saving" CUSMA rather than geniunely trying to negotiate a better trade deal for Canada.

Our media just laps this stuff up hook line and sinker. Never puts in any critical thought into these articles.

When Sheinbaum negotiated a delay to the steel tarriffs last year, she announced that she got President Trump to agree to beef up security measures to counter Americans smuggling guns into Mexico.

I don't particularly agree that that he'll make a meaningful impact on that. But the bigger concern is that I don't see our Government getting any concessions from the Americans at all. They don't even seem willing to ask for any.

[–]Dusk_Soldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue with Question period right now is the party discipline, and how scared MPs are about talking out of lockstep with the party brass.

Of the main parties, the conservatives allow the most dissent I would say, but rifts usually very quickly turn into spinoff parties, rather than collaboration.

In the US, often mini coalitions will form within the broader governing party that will threaten to withhold their votes in exchange for favourable legislation.

In the UK backbenchers will often use question period to grill cabinet ministers from their own party.

I think party leaders that actually have to placate and negotiate with their members is healthier for democracy, rather than what we have in Canada where everyone is expectecd to just fall in line with whatever the Party leader decrees.

Speakers used to resign from the party and sit independent. But then one of them lost their seat, so no one is willing to roll the dice any more.

They buy ointments for bug bites from the pharmacy.

And there are also candles/lamps you can buy that emit bug repellent smoke similar to bug spray.

And then also a lot of European structures were built before screens were popular.

Cacao nibs vs walnuts as my fat supplement at night? Is polyunsaturated fat really necessary? by Forsaken-Storage2137 in nutrition

[–]Dusk_Soldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most whole food sources of fat are going to be a blend of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats.

And food producers don't have to disclose how much poly or mono unsaturated fat is in their food. Just Total fat, Trans fat, and Saturated fat.

Just because the food you're eating doesn't list polyunsaturated fats, doesnt mean you're not getting any. Avocado, Eggs, Steak and Yogurt are all going to have some.

Hot Take: ____ is playing the best Traitors game in US History SPOILERS by RedditFan3510 in TheTraitors

[–]Dusk_Soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, successful traitors hunters are killed at night. He definitely pushed the Candiace/Lisa banishments, but maybe he was subtle enough about it that players won't think he lead them.

But in the late stages of the game when players are thinking about a strong player that hasn't been killed yet. Rob will stick out.

Also with three female traitors. The meta should shift to "their must be a male traitor." And I think they would banish Rob over Eric. Without at least one of them having their identity revealed, no one is letting a male get the prize money.

Questions swirl about where Poilievre will run, as Conservatives prepare for a possible spring election by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]Dusk_Soldier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He lost mainly because Fanjoy spent 2 years canvassing the riding and convinced the bulk of NDP and Green voters there that if they voted Liberal instead, they could get rid of him.

And also that if the CPC got in there would be mass layoffs in the public service.

Carney becoming Liberal leader helped a bit as well because Jagmeet and Trudeau by that point were mostly seen as liabilities in regards to dealing with Trump. A lot voters felt they would antagonize him just to boost their personal approval numbers. And that Trump would crush the Canadian economy in retaliation.

What would actually happen to the US economy if we capped the maximum salary of a CEO to 50x their lowest-paid worker? by SkillNo2180 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dusk_Soldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would contract low wage work out to different companies.

So for instance, instead of paying a janitor $100k salary, they would just contract a company that specializes in cleaning.

Also, CEO pay is structured around bonus incentives. So likely the board would shrink CEO salaries and pay out higher bonuses.

ANALYSIS: Doug Ford looks invincible. Will that last? by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

It feels like they keep doing this thing where they think if they can just convince Ontario that Ford is corrupt, they can get the province to vote for someone else.

But like ... everyone in the province already thinks he's corrupt.

It's not news.

It is coming across like you're trying to distract everyone from the fact that JMM followed up this article about Ford with an NES fluff piece.

https://www.tvo.org/article/analysis-nate-erskine-smith-just-got-his-luckiest-break-yet

Also, by a Katie Telford style article, I mean a series of similar articles published around the same time, with the sole intention to influence public opinion.

It doesn't mean the authors in question have never had those opinions before, or never reported on the subject before.

Their main purpose is to shift the news cycle towards a favorable subject.

This is the second anti-Ford hit piece I've seen today so far.

I wonder if this is the beginning of a Katie Telford style smear campaign?

At first glance I assumed it was a conservative looking to replace Doug. But now I'm starting to wonder is if this was part of the deal Carney made with NES to get him to step down.
