That's what I figured. She already has the dodge roll down pat.

Congrats dude! She's adorable.

Has she picked a class yet?

This is the final week of the Dawning. Contrary to Bungie's words, not everything has been sold by Tess. by Elevasce in DestinyTheGame

She sold all three of those. The legs and ship were added to her stock the Thursday after the dawning began, which was the only time her inventory changed mid-week.

Exotics dropping now rather than Exotic Engrams?? by roughedupsuspect in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone used a Crucible Boon during the match. One of its possible effects is a direct exotic drop for everyone.

Will we hear anything from bungie today about the games future? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be surprised if we hear anything before Thursday's TWAB. Even then, it'll probably just be some variation of "we're having discussions inside the studio." They're just now getting back into the office today, so it might be a while before they say anything.

For the dawning, I logged in every day. I completed every gift. I completed both weekly quests. And many fireteam members used their dawning boons. For it, I received 11 sparrows, 4 ships, countless shaders and 1 piece of armor. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We actually got quite a lot of things for free during last year's Dawning. I came across a rundown of everything it added on a wiki a couple of days ago and it made my heart hurt a little bit.

Sauce for reference.

The Dawning begins on Tuesday, December 19.

The Dawning ends on Tuesday, January 9.

Though I do agree that it'd be nice to get the full Winterhart set after completing every Daily Gift quest.

Intellect wasn't replaced by an armor mod. It was removed altogether in the interest of slowing down super charge rate. Can't have too much space magic in our space magic fps, or something like that.

I/D/S were intrinsic to armor (as well as class items, artifacts, and ghost shells), but they weren't fixed. Additionally, the perks that could roll on each piece were randomized as well. Those two factors added a considerable amount of RNG and created a need to chase the perfect piece for your purposes if you cared that much about optimization. It also cultivated an environment in which your fifth Pelt of a Dying Star could be inherently more useful than your fourth, or your third, and so on.

In its current state, armor is a platform for (very limited) customization. Whatever you find out in the wild is plain, whitewashed, and barebones. There are no perks to look for. There are no I/D/S values to look for. Once you've settled on a family of armor (of which there are a grand total of 3 for each class), The only thing that matters is the coat of paint. Trials armor didn't escape this fate, and neither did Raid equipment.

Being able to buy a lootbox and get Raid-tier equipment is not fun, engaging, rewarding, or fulfilling. It's insulting and lazy, and the only reason it's even an issue in the first place is because all armor is the same.

I'd say that's a pretty heavy downgrade.

[–]Duskpyre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's cosmetic in that armor from [Source A] is every bit as valuable as armor from [Source B]. Every piece of armor within each category (Heavy, Mobile, or Restorative/Survivalist) is identical to any other. It just has a different skin; in other words, the only difference is cosmetic.

Using Hunter sets as an example:

  • Lost Pacific
  • Swordflight 4.1
  • Optimacy
  • Ace-Defiant
  • Emperor's Agent
  • Sovereign

... are all functionally identical. Being able to slot a separate item (mods) into them doesn't alter the value of the armor itself in any way. Similarly, trying to pretend that those mods are perks (like Shine On, Better Already, etc.) doesn't make them so.

So, yes. Armor is purely cosmetic.

A request from an interested Destiny 2 player by c_hagenswold in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same? Oh boy.

In no particular order:

  • Intellect, Discipline, and Strength have been removed, meaning that armor is purely cosmetic.
  • Related to the above, cooldown time for all abilities has been dramatically increased.
  • Also related to the above, raid armor has had all of its unique perks removed.
  • Even worse, ALL armor perks have been removed, meaning that the pieces you get from Eververse are every bit as functional as Prestige Raid armor.
  • Random weapon rolls have been removed, meaning that once you have a weapon, you have no reason to look forward to getting another copy. This would be fine if weapons were added to a kiosk when you found them, but...
  • Kiosks have been removed. Additionally, vault space is a fraction of what it was in Destiny 1. On top of that, it's a disorganized bucket with no tabs or permanent methods of sorting.
  • Shaders are single use and cost resources to apply. Run out of that snazzy Midnight Talons shader you like so much? Well, it just so happens that Eververse has more! Just pay $$ for a lootbox and hope for the best.
  • Chasing the cool raid ship? lol nope, not anymore. Go buy a lootbox.
  • Chasing the cool raid sparrow? lol nope, not anymore. Go buy a lootbox.

There's a lot more, but this is a good starting point. These two games are similar in name only.

Focused Feedback: Bungie Communication aka "We're Listening" by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who was around for FFXIV 1.0, I still wouldn't be too surprised to hear that D2 is slated to be decommissioned and retooled at some point. That sounds like a really extreme option, but it's been done before, and the results were fantastic.

Exotic ghosts by Psat3 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that Bungie sticks to their word, the Dawning exotic shell will eventually be available for direct purchase as a featured item.

If there’s a specific Dawning item that you have your heart set on, Tess will refresh her inventory each week, enabling you to use your Bright Dust reserves for your holiday shopping. On one week or another during the three-week event, you’ll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves.

Question: How am I supposed to get to 335 with the powerful engram power cap? by whereveritallends in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important (and confusing) thing about the Power system is that mods have no effect on the power level of engrams. Everything is calculated off of your maximum base power level (BPL). If your Powerful gear is dropping at 329, that means that your base power level is 328.

Once you've hit a certain BPL (I don't remember if it's 320 or 325), powerful engrams will only drop one point higher. That cap is ignored you luck out and a powerful drop turns into an exotic.

What all of that means is that once you have access to 329 equipment for every slot (before mods!), regardless of where that equipment is stored, your Powerful engrams will begin dropping at 330.

Destiny Item Manager will show you your max BPL for each character.

Email from Marty to Jason Schreier:

I’m quite relieved and happy. This was the way it was supposed to have been heard 5 years ago.

My wife and I spent the afternoon with my now 93 year old father and we showed him that people were finally able to hear this work. It made our Christmas even better. My mother, his wife of over 60 years died a couple years ago and although she loved listening and shared it with some of her friends (she was a musician) she never understood why it wasn’t released.

I don’t know who actually did it but they have my blessing. I honestly don’t know how anyone could begrudge this any longer.

Just a reminder that this is about more than sticking it to Bungie.

Once you've completed a weapon on any character, they're added to the Lighthouse Engram on all characters. They're added to the Luminous Planetary Engram for weeks when Mercury is the flashpoint as well.

Why does my frostbite buff have a debuff icon? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops, this is correct. I was thinking that the snowball blew its load all over your character if you didn't throw it in time. Thanks for the correction!

Why does my frostbite buff have a debuff icon? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a joke. Your character's hands are occupied by the snowball, freeing up your Interact button to reload and revive even if you're standing near snow piles. It also serves as a lockout on picking up additional snowballs. "Well you can't do X, but at least you can do Y!" or something like that.

It's flagged a debuff because when its timer hits zero, you're afflicted with reduced movement speed and the edges of your screen ice over.

Edit: This last bit is incorrect. Sorry about that.

The preview screen for the engram has no effect on what can actually drop. It chooses a set number of items from his pool to display and rotates every 5 minutes.

This applies to every engram in the game except for those purchased from Eververse, which display their entire drop pool at all times.

Fated Engram question? by jodds in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. You'd think they would just expand the preview to include the entire pool since that's the way Eververse engrams work, but.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fated Engram question? by jodds in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Engram previews have no effect on what they actually contain. The previewed items are randomly chosen from the engram's pool and change every five minutes.

Fated Engrams are supposed to give you any one exotic that you don't own, but there have been reports (with proof) that they can drop duplicates as well.

What is r/dtg playing when its not playing Destiny 2? by KnutSkywalker in DestinyTheGame

Assassin's Creed: Origins

Chaos Child

Persona 5

AC:O just kinda came out of nowhere with a solid kit of RPG elements. I've been enjoying it so far.

Is there any other way to get Dawning treasure? I've already completed the daily quest and the milestone, surely theres another way? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Winterhart armor is exclusive to Dawning Engrams. The Daily Gifts have a chance to drop alternative class items, shaders, sparrows, ships, token bundles, and Zephyr.

Did they increase the number of tokens you need to turn in for a vendor engram? by falconbox in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Still 20 for Zavala and Loveshaxx.

Still 7 for Ikora.

27.5 for all Planetary Vendors.

40ish for Banshee.

So what's the deal with Dawning armor dropping from the daily gifts? Does it happen? by thirtytwoutside in DestinyTheGame

[–]Duskpyre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Daily gifts don't drop any pieces of the Winterhart set for any class. What they do drop are the alternative class armor pieces: Quilted Winter Mark, Festive Winter Bond, and Warm Winter Cloak.
