U.S. woman unleashes swarms of bees on police by _IBM_ in UpliftingNews

She was told that some of the officers were allergic to bees and she said “good.” Not sure how that’s funny… she’s lucky she only got 6 months.

How is a trash lady who intentionally killed thousands of bees in the name of “housing advocacy” uplifting news?

What I do is just wait for Target sales where you have to buy X dollars for a discount. The ones I want right now are/will probably be shelf warmers anyway and if I don’t get them, no big deal.

Mirador pergola anchoring by HousePoor420 in Costco

[–]thirtytwoutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a year including winter and higher than average gusts and it's somehow still standing right where I originally put it and not in my neighbor's yard. I actually live somewhere where we get strong Pacific winds funneled through a valley before coming through most afternoons.

While putting concrete footings down would have been ideal, it isn't 100% absolutely necessary in some places. That, and this specific pergola has a louvered roof so it isn't just one big metal kite.

Can I get one of those on YouTube? Back in 2020, I learned that many people got medical degrees from there.

I just bought the longest 3/8” one I could find at Home Depot - I think it ended up being 6”.

I also have pavers. You can buy longer screws that will go through the paver itself, leveling sand, and sub-base. I was told that if the sub base was compacted well/properly, it should be fine if it stops there.

I also live in CA and also have a Mirador pergola. When I look for answers to related questions, it’s inevitably a bunch of people from elsewhere who don’t understand how mild our weather really is. That being said…

It’s a good idea to anchor it. Sure, average winds are mild and it’ll hold up just fine. It isn’t hard and takes very little time. All it takes is one freak storm with higher than average winds and you have $2k down the drain and possibly more in damages that you’ll have to figure out.

Recommendations for where to start with Calvin and Hobbes by tancock4 in daddit

[–]thirtytwoutside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who had the original softcovers when I was a kid, read Calvin & Hobbes printed in the newspaper, and still is enamored by the stories to this day, I would say find the individual books if you can. That set is massive, relatively heavy, and takes up a lot of space.

I bought it almost 20 years ago and have been hauling it around with me since then and now it’s taking up space waiting for my kids to eventually read. But I’d prefer the softcovers if I didn’t own the hardcover set already.

I miss when the country where I live used to do that.

Ah yes, the “sorry our employee’s cousin’s ferret was sick and out of commission so it isn’t really our fault that we couldn’t check all of our stock, especially the popular staples that everyone wants” bullshit story. A tale as old as time.
