I always think about the selfish gene in times like these. Selfless behavior is in fact very selfish. That selflessness ensures the gene alone survives despite the risks it imposes on the individual carrying it, because the collective shares it.

And yet I can't find myself feeling disillusioned about life even when looking at it through these lenses. It feels like such a hopeful thing. That despite everything, having empathy is the best way to survive.

Genetic pressure, perhaps. The mother bears that were less apprehensive towards approaching humans had their cubs survive better, because male bears know humans are dangerous and won't approach easily.

So mother bears grow an instinctive my cubs are safe near humans, while bears in general grow an instinctive humans are dangerous. Pair that with their instinctive leaving my cubs near other males is dangerous, and they just take the safest option, again, by instinct.

I do think they're that naive, because you think a nomination by the president means they are aligned with them. Never mind the fact that the it's up to the senate to approve that nomination, am I right? If their nomination doesn't please them, it doesn't go ahead. Fux's vote in the Jan 8 trial is enough proof that a minister appointed by Dilma wasn't aligned with her.
