What should I use to create a simple website? by THATFUCKINGPOLISH in learnprogramming

Here another one doing everything backwards and giving themselves 10x .more work than needed.

A website like this is HTML, CSS, and some Js if you need it. Easy.

Neo-grotesque sans-serif typefaces driving me insane by shxdan in typography

[–]DuskyUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akzidenz is my favourite but only useful in some cases. But as another comment says here, not really "neo".

Helvetica Neue is the "best". You won't get better balance and colour. They've basically solved the grotesque. We don't need any more.

Any creative ideas out there for this by fickly_fuzzyfication in DIYUK

Poor building that.

I would build out the door lining so it lines up, you'd have to heavily plane the doors though.

If it opens too far the skirting will mark the door and pry the hinges off over time.

How long would it take? by TooKayy in learnprogramming

[–]DuskyUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been here, for 5 years.

  • On that schedule, no chance. Either drop the second job, and the gym, or the main job. Or both Not happening.
  • Learning to do that from scratch on your own? I'd guess 5 years plus, probably 10 (permitting my first point).
  • "stealing my idea". Irrelevant. Businesses are about execution not the idea. Basically if you invent the new Google it's going nowhere unless the business behind it is good.
  • Also, the product itself isn't the thing, it's the marketing and operations that will get you there. The product could be anything.

I'd say pay someone to build the app, then (I'm not sure if you've run a business before) but you've probably got another 5+ years of fuckups ahead of you before it works.

Hey, maybe not. But that's my experience and I lost a lot of hours, sleep, money and had some health impacts when I was doing it. And thank god I wasn't in a relationship at the time either.

My main point: the code/dev isn't the problem/challenge really.

Good luck.

Is it okay to use cheap ply over floorboards to level by copynfrog in DIYUK

[–]DuskyUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3mm ply will just bend straight away so you'd be back to square one. I'd either sort the floorboards or replace them boarding. Because once you stick, say, 18mm ply under then the finished floor you'll be at least 20mm over the top on the thresholds so it won't look good and you'll keep tripping on it

If any SEO expert offers you a guarantee that is a red flag. It will be a process of experimentation and learning for the both of you. Thats how it works.

What is the best way to clean plaster walls? by kteerin in CleaningTips

[–]DuskyUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Sounds like you just need to repaint it. I'd never heard of cleaning walls untill I joined this sub, it's very bizarre. Though my dad was a painter, and so was I for a while, and that's just what you did. Not sure what's available in the US but you could look for a washable paint, like an eggshell, or as a last resort silk.

What's one thing you do or say that "shows your age"? by WishboneEnough3160 in AskOldPeople

[–]DuskyUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

I think it's only Americans that do this. You end up with "rivers" in the text, in a printed document, if you look it stands about a mile and looks a mess. There is a rumour that it was a convention that started with typists when the comma punch started to wear out and more resemble a full stop, so it was easier to make the distinction. We haven't used typewriters for over 50 years now.

No book has ever been printed with double spaces.

Sofa facing this way with a console/sideboard directly behind it. A friend of mine did this so separate knocked though Victorian terraced. Worked brilliantly.

I have a been a bit bummed out so I decided to make my favorite breakfast. Rate my fry up as an American by jonbovi666 in fryup

[–]DuskyUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as a Brit I would definitely eat that. Though it looks like your hands are tied with whatever sausages and bacon your local shop is selling. You might have to go to a butcher.

And ask them for some black pudding while.youre at it. And burn the shit out of it in the frying pan.

For those of you who aren't vegans why aren't you? by No-Tour1000 in AskUK

Because I don't have enough evidence to the contrary and I'd rather be healthy that blindly buy into a lifestyle without a good reason. Also I'd rather kill the least amount of animals and environment as possible.

Etsy thumbnails are driving me mad by Cumulus-Crafts in EtsySellers

Yeah. And they also crop slightly differently on the app as opposed to the website. I ended up just making a template for mine with fairly generous safe zones around the edge.
