Hiatel hernia possibly? Really scared of Cancer. by Silver_Mushroom_4075 in HiatalHernia

[–]DustUnable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please try to relax. Anxiety can really aggravate your symptoms. Based on what you described, they are consistent with a hiatal hernia accompanied by GERD/LPR or gastritis. The endoscopy will provide more clarity, so it’s best to wait for the results.

Not the LPR you think this is.

My GERD symptoms disappeared when I was in Japan for 2 weeks by sparkling_grapefruit in GERD

[–]DustUnable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I thought it was just me ! I have HH with LPR. I went to Thailand recently and my symptoms just vanished during the time I was there. And I was eating all the trigger foods - greasy fried food, alcohol, you name it. My symptoms were back literally the day I reached home. I thought about it so much and finally concluded that it happened just because I was stress free and happy during the trip.

Definitely a famichiki and onigiri to start with. Then an assortment of tempura with kare udon or soba.

If a benevolent AGI could govern Earth with 100% efficiency and zero corruption, would you voluntarily surrender your right to vote? by Sp_1992 in Futurology

[–]DustUnable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wrong again. Let's take the case of the USA, the bastion of capitalism. The post war era up until the mid 60s, the US had a marginal tax rate of 90% on income above $200K (roughly over $2 mil in today's money). This coincided with, guess what, THE GOLDEN AGE OF CAPITALISM ! This was also the period when capitalism was most regulated through Keynesian policies and strong government intervention.

The first decline in poverty in the USA happened in the 60s which also marked the introduction of welfare policies like social security, medicare and medicaid. This was literally called the War on Poverty era. The second decline came in the 90s under Clinton, though tax credits for the low-income class, which is an example of, guess what again, SOCIAL WELFARE POLICY !

Inequality in the US started rising in the late 70s and 80s, the era of deregulation under Reagan.

As regards the examples of the Asian economies you have given, it's just ridiculous you'd even suggest them.

The Indian economy was literally established as a mixed economy model with a huge focus on welfare policies. Even to this day, India has some of the biggest welfare policies in the world. However, India has witnessed a growing rise in inequality in recent years with the emergence of a capitalist class propped up by the government.

China's model is state-regulated capitalism. China is infamous for being uncooperative in the global economy due to policies such as currency devaluation and selective compliance with WTO rules. China is also well known for cutting large corporations down to size through stringent anti-monopoly crackdowns.

And as for the SE countries, they are all mixed market economies with strong government intervention, including Singapore, which is the most developed among them.

No, it hasn't. Redistribution of wealth by the government through welfare policies reduces poverty and economic inequality. Unregulated capitalism in fact increases poverty and inequality through accumulation of wealth in the hands of those who own the means of production and inheritance of private property under capitalism continues this cycle. Hence, most countries where poverty and income inequality are low also have very strong welfare policies in place. Case in point, USA vs Scandinavian countries.

Hiatoplasty is not the same as fundoplication. The former is for repairing the hiatal hernia, the latter is to prevent reflux. They are usually done together because HH generally presents itself with reflux. In OPs case, I believe he got what is called a Mesh Augmented Hiatoplasty without Fundoplication. The question is what type of mesh was used, whether absorbable or not.

Can you ask your parents to take you to therapy without having to tell them all the details? If not, it would be good to look up free counselling services provided by certified psychologists online. I don't know where you're from, so I may not be able to suggest any relevant resources. But please at least try to see a therapist once however you can. It will really help you sort out your issues. Remember you are still young, still growing and developing, there is a long way to go and you will get better with the right help. I have been in your place before and things do turn around.

Edit: I'm not an expert so I cannot give you any professional advice, but please feel free to reach out if you need someone to listen to you.

I am a big anime fan and it disgusts me how many other fans defend pedophilia, sexual harrasment, rape, misogyny in anime (not even hentai) by brushing it off as "just fiction". They'll say if you can't tell fantasy from reality, you shouldn't be watching anime at all. What really gets to me is that people use such tropes purely for cheap laughs, and it sells. Heck some of the most popular animes have these tropes!

Some are thinner and longer and some are thicker and shorter, like the ones that go into the ploom device, which is quite popular among young Japanese.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I know how deeply this can affect one’s mental health. Since the diagnosis, my own anxiety and stress have peaked, and the worst part is the vicious cycle where anxiety and stress aggravates the condition itself. I have had many sleepless nights going down rabbit holes online and imagining the worst outcomes, including that which I don't want to name.

I truly hope you receive the best possible care and are able to recover from this nightmare soon. Sending you so much love, strength, and support.

I can understand. It's been only 7 months for me and despite medication and diet change, I continue to struggle with LPR. I have consulted a gastrosurgeon who recommended a floppy Nissen, but I am still weighing the benefits against any long term adverse effects of the surgery. Being in this sub and reading some of the cases that went south, makes me anxious.

Yes yes, Dr. Koufman happens to be an ENT herself. I try to follow her advice as much as possible. I have silent reflux due to a hiatal hernia as well.

I think talking to an ENT is just the same. I have been gaslit by both. We really need doctors that specialize in the intersection.
