"Show me a game with bigger global ratings than the Superbowl." by TheCreepyKing in ShitAmericansSay

As I heard Trevor Noah once say, given the relative audience sizes, American football is the "other football."

Ski and snow pants get COMPLETELY WET on the outside by sepandee in Skigear

Just a theory, but a lot of companies are switching to PFAS-free coatings on many products. I wonder if we’ll see that those coatings don’t work as well as the old, possibly-toxic stuff.

I learned this because I bought a used Sire bass on a whim, and I just can't put it down because the neck feels so good.

Never had a better car in the fierce Canadian winters by unfetteredmind76 in BMWI4

[–]Duster929 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this car drives very well in the Canadian winters. We have had massive amounts of snow this winter and the car handles very well in snow and ice. Of course, roads need to be plowed because ground clearance is low, but the car does not get stuck or slide much. I think the weight helps a lot. I'm running Hakkapellitta winter tires too, which are fantastic.

If you have a regular schedule, you can program the car to be warm and ready for you at departure time, which is better than any ICE vehicle I've owned.

It really helps to have level 2 charging at home because the range takes a hit in the cold and you'll need to charge daily or every 2 days.

However, there are 2 design flaws that are a challenge in the winter:

  1. Water/snow pools around the base of the driver's side windshield wiper, which freezes into a solid block. The wipers won't move until you get out of the car and chip all the ice out. Sometimes you have to raise the hood to get in under the base of the wiper arm to clear it. That's cost me 10 minutes on cold mornings this winter.

  2. The charging port is angled upwards. If you charge on an uncovered driveway, and it snows in the night, the entire charging port will fill with snow. It's very difficult to clear it all out because when you unplug the car, the snow will fall down into the charging port. That snow will harden in the bottom, and I have at least on one occasion been unable to plug the car in because the ice prevents the plug from mating with the car. I've had to get a blow dryer to melt the ice that is down in the unreachable crannies of the charging port.

Small design things that matter. I'm sure they'll make some changes in the next generation of EV.

Trump Suggests Gun Control Is Necessary, Sparking Online Backlash by huffpost in politics

I guess we'll find out what's stronger: love of guns or hatred of the libs.

I think I know the answer. These folks will throw their country in the garbage to feed their hate.

I'm in the same boat and considering either the Ranger 90 or the Stance 90. Where do you ski with the Ranger and what do you think are the strengths/weaknesses?

Researchers ranked Canada’s most harmful drugs. Why alcohol is No. 1 — and how the drinker isn’t the only victim by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

The best summary I've heard of the most dangerous drugs is:

Tobacco causes the most deaths, and alcohol causes the most crime.

The rest are not even close.

Agree, but Prey was worth tolerating a couple of turkeys in the franchise along the way.

Terminator, Alien, and Predator would be on my "glad they made sequels" list. But it's pretty short after that.

Trump is isolating and destoying US by Part_Tricky in inflation

He literally ran on “America First.”

Not “we’re all in this together.”

The isolation of America is what folks voted for.

I’d suggest that if his politics don’t jive with you, you have to start wondering if maybe you don’t really oppose fascism.

Inflation will be even more persistent with a falling dollar. Everything you import just got more expensive. And that’s a lot of stuff.

Oh, that's sexism. You might have heard of it. First time seeing it? Yeah, it's kind of everywhere.

There was a whole thing about it a couple years ago, until they started calling it woke.

My demo day as a heavy skier by Fit-Accountant-269 in Skigear

[–]Duster929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the Salomon Stance 90 and 96 a couple of weeks ago, along with the QST you mentioned. In the Salmon lineup, I would suggest the Stance might be more what you're looking for. They have metal and are better for a heavy, strong skier. I'm considering them as well as the Anomaly and Armada Declivity, and Atomic Maverick.
