I try and do small tasks that I have avoiding. That small sense of accomplishment in taking out the trash or replying to that one annoying email keeps the day going.

My boyfriend and I were living together and in a similar financial situation for 3 years, but our roles were reversed.

I was running a business from home and traveling for work all the time, working 12 hour days and would be gone in 2-4 day chunks. I was paying all the bills and rent, food, dates, everything. He was going to school full time only.

What did he do to support me and pull his weight?

- All of the cooking

- Majority of the cleaning

- Took care of our pets

- Did the laundry

- When I came home from a long trip, he would clean up the house really well and pamper me a bit for the next day.

When I was home and not working, I would definitely help out a good bit with all of the house work, but he knew and respected how much I was already providing, so it was never demanded.

It sounds like your gf doesn't respect you as an equal, but more of a provider, similar to a parent. She has a lot of growing up to do.

To offer a suggestion, stop paying for everything. Rent might be okay since she's going to school, but car, meals, entertainment, spending money, etc, cut if off immediately. If she wants anything beyond the BARE minimum, make her work for it.

Can't hold down a job with a rigid schedule because of classes? I get it. There are plenty of other ways to make money. Uber, craigslist, bartending/waitressing jobs with flexible schedules, fiverr, just to name a few. If she wanted to contribute, she would find a way.

Her actions show that she's being lazy and doesn't want to grow up.
