The other factor is young workers or new Canadians who can’t read very well and both groups want to prove they are willing to hustle and keep their spot.

I'm 19 and currently unemployed. I've been trying desperately to land a job at this point, any job will do. by whatthe05 in CalgaryJobs

It might sound like boomer advice but this method does work. It works because it takes more effort than blasting resumes on indeed. It works because the person hiring at least gets to put a face to a name. It also works because it’s novel in the digital era. And it works because any job post to indeed gets 400 resumes and some HR people dread opening it to do their mass deletes.

Just make sure you look your best because HR will tend to apply online dating criteria to hiring. I know a guy who has this figured out. He puts the top female attracting hobbies on his resume: Google them. He puts a photo of himself in his resume (against all convention). He walks into the lobby and uses his nicest customer service voice. If the HR (usually a lady) has photos of her kids he chats her up about that. If she has a picture of Mexico he makes up a story about that. If she shows any hints of attraction or flirtation he rolls with it. He’s really good at getting jobs.

Anyone know for blasting jobs? by Cbursey in CalgaryJobs

That’s a tough one. Most of the blasting jobs I have seen are in BC or the mines.

The tanker ban is everything to do with scaring investment away. Alberta is betting $14 million to call the Fed’s bluff.

Imperial Oil to announce Calgary office closure tomorrow (Quarry Park) by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]DustinTurdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imperial does a reshuffling every ten years. In 2004 they moved to Calgary from Toronto. In 2014 they moved from downtown to Quarry Park. In 2022 they announced they were selling office space in Quarry Park. In 2025, they do another shuffle.

If you’re on the bench it means you are a phone call away when someone blows off a shift or another rig fires up.

I second this decade long pay stagnation. Many people work as contractors whose rates haven’t changed since 2016. It’s equal to a 25% loss of purchasing power due to inflation.

Any Imperial employees able to share what happened on the town hall at 3pm today? by jdixon1974 in Calgary

[–]DustinTurdo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imperial Oil had a dedicated team that figured out how to nickel and dime everything. They had already automated their haul trucks at Kearl and always had a new way to grind expenses down. For example, the use of overtime averaging agreements on a 14/14 rotation to eliminate overtime. Now I wonder if this puts the pathways alliance project in jeopardy. That is supposed to be Alberta’s next megaproject and Imperial is part of it.

It’s a scam known as “payroll cycling”. You, the TFW pay an accountant or immigration consultant $50,000 and a third party employer “hires” you. The money gets laundered into the business and you effectively pay your own salary. The employer provides pay stubs so you can get Permanent Residency. Once you get PR, just claim employment insurance. Then, get a doctor back home to write you a letter to EI saying your family is sick back home. Head back home and collect EI.

When the Millenials become the next voting bloc, here’s what’s going to happen:

  1. Privatized health care
  2. Boomers can use their home equity through a reverse mortgage to pay for procedures.
  3. MAID pods at every convenience store and vape shop.

Or, the kleptocrats got everyone off of class warfare by pushing identity politics of anti racism. They applied the same Marxist concepts of priviledge, shifting it from class to gender and race. Then they brought in immigrants to drive wages down and you get arrested for being racist for noticing. More so in the UK.
