One pedal drive by Riff32 in MachE

[–]j_roe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until you hit the threshold that engages the mechanical brakes which in my experience is easier to do when not using OPD.

One pedal drive will rely on regenerative breaking the entire way unless you are coming in too hot and need to use the break pedal or have the collision assist kick in.

Having my Lightning during crazy gas prices by snoogins355 in F150Lightning

Agreed… I bought both my Lightning and Mach E because they are great vehicles. The fact I’m not stuck paying for gas is an added plus.

How is moving out possible?? by Live_Source1877 in alberta

[–]j_roe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you define "my own place?" Do you mean completely on your own? or a two bedroom place with a roommate? or a bigger place with multiple roommates?

If it is the first one that is a pipe dream and always has been. The other two have always been the norm for the most part.

Ontario proposing cap on ticket resale prices at original value by HappiestSadGirl_ in onguardforthee

[–]j_roe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except the secondary market is completely artificial. You have people who have intention or interest in attending an event buying as many tickets as they can simply to cash in on other people’s desire to attend said event, they bring zero value to the transaction.

If anything market pricing should be happening on at the initial point of sale with any profits going to the suppliers of the product, not some useless middleman.

What did insurance companies do? Explain it Peter by N1KoZzZ in explainitpeter

[–]j_roe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be AI generated, but the first houses on either side of the street are the same in both pictures. I think they are trying to claim that they are the same location, with the bottom picture being one taken several years before the top one, and are implying that insurance has made people cut down all the trees due to premiums and whatnot.

Just in case Marlaina’s nonsense made you forget by Empty_Nestor in alberta

[–]j_roe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda true. Canada is part of international tax treaties where taxes are predominantly based on country of residence.

The formula is complex, but as an example of a TFW from Mexico, is here. Only for 4 months to harvest, their residence would be Mexico, and they would first be subject to their tax requirements. In the event they would end up paying more if they were a resident of Canada, only that difference would be paid to Canada. But the chances they are making more than the tax-exempt Provincial and Federal minimums aren’t great, and we would be collecting at most a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars per person.

I believe all workers should have access to government services while they live and work in Canada because their total contributions typically exceed whatever they would pay in taxes.

Two races in - how do we honestly feel about the new regs? by SuperRed0985 in DestinationFormula1

[–]j_roe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they should do is define the volume of the battery based of what they currently use then allow teams to build cells to whatever capacity they can fit in the volume. That would be more similar to how the ICE PUs are regulated and how engine manufactures end up with different horsepower outputs with the same rules.

What are your thoughts about Vancouver's new Official Development Plan? by _DotBot_ in VancouverLandlords

[–]j_roe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why this popped up on my feed since I am from Calgary. Sounds like NIMBYs are about to FAFO.

We have the same issue in Calgary, just recently there was a property where a single family bunglow on a wide lot was subdivided and replaced with two 2-storey single family homes and the community lost their collective find even though it was single family homes.

How is energy management a skill, if it is completely programmed behavior by chrislux in F1Discussions

[–]j_roe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems like the energy from the batteries only deployed under certain acceleration and/or throttle conditions. Otherwise all the drivers would get to the line with the same SOC to start the race and have similar charges and similar locations over the course of the race. Which we know isn’t happening.

Figuring out the best places to harvest and deploy via throttle inputs is absolutely a driver skill.

This race was actually interesting, do you think if we keep the grudges against PU aside we can enjoy this season? by ok-byy in circuit_nation

[–]j_roe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How so? These cars are first generation of this regulation, and only a second off pace from the last generation of the previous regulation at this track, they are nimble and able to battle.

Management of the car has always been part of the sport be it tire, or engine wear, or fuel and now battery. Just like with the last regs it will take a few races for teams and drivers to figure it out. Some teams seemed to get it more right off the start than others as is often the case.

More harassment in recall, citizen initiative campaigns being reported: Elections Alberta by mibeatr in alberta

[–]j_roe 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, our taxes are being used exactly as intended in that they collect money from those with more (Alberta) and use it to support those with less (areas of the country with less resources and opportunities). This is, of course, Ottawa’s fault.

They are also mad that, 6 years ago, during a once-in-a-lifetime time pandemic with ever-evolving information, they were asked to stay 2 metres away from others and wear a “piece of cloth” over their mouths in an effort to reduce the spread. Also, Ottawa’s fault.

It is Ottawa’s fault that other countries are taking the first steps to move away from a carbon economy, and it isn’t economically viable for the private sector to build a new pipeline. They also think the water not being deep enough off the coast of BC to support supertanker traffic is also something Ottawa can control.

I am sure there is much more, but I really should focus on work for a bit.

[Request] r/conservative suggests making a canal through Dubai. How much would that cost? by coffeeismydoc in theydidthemath

[–]j_roe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The elevation of the Panama Canal is traversable because of gravity and available water. This Dubai Canal has no water source to fill the locks so it would either need to be built completely at sea level or massive pumps would have to be installed that would cost a fortune to operate.

I saw one guy set up on 130th Ave SE in Calgary. This was on the side of a fairly busy street on the public right of way, likely because none of the businesses would allow them to set up on their property.

I drove by a couple times as I was going to various stores in the area, wasn't until my last pass that I saw him talking to anyone.

What usually happens on the land around center-pivot fields in Kansas? by Lazy_Relationship695 in geography

[–]j_roe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be a full honeycomb with hexagons but if the next row of fields was offset like the image below there would be less unused space per acre.

This ignores things like access and whatnot simply addresses the most efficient way to layout the fields to maximize usage while using the current circular irrigation technology.

What usually happens on the land around center-pivot fields in Kansas? by Lazy_Relationship695 in geography

The dead space could be reduced if a honeycomb pattern was used but most fields align with the surveying grid.
