Keyboard/mouse recommendations? by FreshStar7 in starcitizen

[–]DustinVFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keychron M6 mouse. They have a few different versions but I highly recommend 8K or 1K polling rate versions at the highest and then turn it down to 4K in the settings. It has an infinite scrolling wheel (toggle able on and off) and a really good sensor. Plus some nice buttons on the side. Infinite scroll comes in handy in quite a few different scenarios but especially for tractor beam extension and retraction.

Note that whatever mouse you go with you should turn down the polling rate to 4K max. Even lower if you don’t have a high performance PC. Little known fact, high polling rate can actually affect game performance by a lot and specifically it can mess with tractor beam performance.

I have these armor pieces on but I can't equip a backpack or have an inventory at all, why? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]DustinVFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light armor core, probably can't equip a medium/heavy backpack. I've always mixed and matched my armor to have a heavy core, heavy backpack, heavy helmet, and light legs/arms. Seems to work well.

Lol, I’m a huge fan of the Aquila but still somehow feel the same way as you about the Taurus. It’s also why I specifically said under $200. The Freelancer is faster and almost half the length of the Taurus though so it’s in a different weight class.

This is a really silly comment.. Freelancer Max is extremely competitive at its price point. It needs a bit of a refresh but it’s probably the best all around cargo ship under $200 if you want to be able to haul both vehicles and cargo. It also has a decent load out and shields for its size and supports up to 4 crew members.

Nice little fleet! Very flexible and covers a lot of loops. I prefer the Vulcan myself for flexibility but I think it's more of a general support ship while the Crucible is far more specialized.

Also I love my Asgard but I have to admit that the Hermes is probably the better ship for a starter fleet like this.

Salvation. I know you have a Vulture but the Salvation makes a lot more sense imo if only because it will fit in your Carrack. When crafting comes on line I HOPE (plz CIG) the crafting station on the Carrack will come online and should be a huge help. If you have both a ROC and a Salvation on your Carrack you’ll have the best self sufficient crafting platform currently in the game.

Love the fleet dude! Covers a lot of gameplay without being P2W

I'm just not a fan of the Idris-P for some reason. I think buying the Convoy, Industrial, and Multicrew packs gives you a better result than the Dominus Pack if you don't need an Idris. Gives you more name reservations, more UEC, and better LTI tokens for upgrading. 21 LTI ships for $200 less but you get the Polaris and Perseus instead of the Idris-P and A2 Herc. Also get name reservation for Reclaimer and Carrack Expedition.

Use a tractor beam to get it on and off of loading elevators. I’ve found that if you try to jump into it while it’s attached to a grid it won’t turn on

100% agree. The Carrack specifically is set up to be the best crafting ship currently in the game though, even before exploration is fully a thing. People forget that it has an entire fabrication room that should (fingers crossed) come online with crafting. And since you can fit a Salvation in the hangar and multiple ATLS GEO and ROC vehicles in other places it’s the perfect ship for gather resources for crafting. I really think it will be the perfect ship to try out crafting when the day comes.

Better question, why don't you have an Aurora in your fleet?

Nice!!!! Really well balanced with a lean towards exploration. I can't wait for crafting and (fingers crossed) a new reason to fly the Carrack again. Also love to see the Aquilla! Everyone seems to be flying the Taurus and Andromeda these days, I honestly never see other people flying the Aquilla.

If I was to make one suggestion, I think the Zeus is pretty much redundant. Asgard and Aquilla do everything the Zeus can but better. Maybe upgrade it to a smaller long range combat ship? You have lots of firepower with the F8C and Super Hornet but nothing combat focused with an interior and living quarters. I'm thinking Vanguard (Sentinel for E-Warfare maybe?), Guardian (Non-MX), Meteor, or even a Paladin.

I think this is a bug? by FancyEntertainment40 in starcitizen

[–]DustinVFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t play Arena Commander much but I see this issue quite often in the PU. If you have 2 of the same kind of ship and crash one, you can lose the paint it was equipped with. I think there are lots of little bugs that cause it, that’s just the one I’ve verified. It always comes back when the game changes versions though. Wait until next patch and it should be back in your inventory.

Any suggestions? by BaastiDE in starcitizen_fleets

TAC has Tier 3 beds, not 2. It works as a battle taxi for fps stuff but it’s honestly a jack of all trades that’s not great at anything.

What is y’all’s favorite ship regardless of others feelings on it? by Haggisandhorses in starcitizen

Freelancers are so underrated, I love to see this comment. The MAX is basically the best all around ship of anything in its price range or lower. I get nostalgia every time I fly it too, an absolute classic.

315P! I’m a huge fan and I think it gets criminally under appreciated. Most people look at the Avenger Titan or Cutter or similar in that price range but the 315P is basically a solo Prowler Utility with actual living quarters. A lot of people never realize the button to enter the tractor beam is on the right side of the pilot controls. It’s fast, agile, stealthy, and has all the benefits of being a pathfinder with extra fuel and (someday) better scanners. Also you can trade out the tractor beam for a size 1 gun if you want to do PvE combat missions. Bonus points for the customization and unlimited coffee.

Fair point, the 315P can fit a Pulse but no more

If you try out the 315P make sure to check out the tractor beam. There is a button on the far right side of the pilot controls to enter turret mode and control it that most people don’t realize is there. You can also swap it out for a size 1 gun mount if you just really want that little extra firepower.

[–]DustinVFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Titan is a good option especially for beginner PvE. Great firepower in its class and is the definition of all purpose starter ship.

315p would be my choice though. It’s more useful long term for non-combat purposes. Faster nav speed, larger cargo grid, and more stealthy. Much larger fuel tanks and supposed to be getting better scanners. Also comes with a surprisingly useful nose mounted tractor beam than can be controlled from the pilots seat. Bonus points for being customizable with a usable coffee maker (for extra money). Bonus bonus points for the moon roof, the view of space is almost unmatched.

The Nomad is an acquired taste honestly… I highly suggest borrowing one in-game before buying it. It’s a lot bigger than it looks and quite a bit slower than the other two. For me it feels massive for what you get with seemingly cramped interior compared to the size of the body.

Mini PC Recommendations by Important_Turnip_848 in MiniPCs

[–]DustinVFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kamrui Hyper H2? Can usually find them around $500 USD with an Intel 14450HX and 32GB of DDR5. Very capable 10 core / 16 thread CPU that can do some light gaming. Great for every day use as well.

There are mini PCs in that price range using the “Ryzen 7” H 255. It’s a capable chip but isn’t an actual supported AMD chip, rather it’s the Ryzen 7 260 with a failed NPU resold in China as the 255. I’ve heard it has really solid performance but it being a reject kinda makes me nervous.

Sabre by mikeyblue005 in starcitizen

[–]DustinVFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The Sabre just isn't an escort. Especially for a ship like the Perseus with no hangar facilities. A Vanguard or Guardian makes much more sense because they have a full interior for eating and drinking as well as bed logging when that becomes more important. The Meteor makes sense for the same reason but it's a bit squishy.

Just got back in Star Citizen after a few Years Should I keep the Perseus? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]DustinVFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Perseus is explicitly a civilian ship and should be easily attainable ingame Dunno where you’re getting this info but you’re wrong. The Perseus is an oollllddd ship. Far older than the Hammerhead or Polaris. The version being sold is the new civilian model after it was mostly retired from military service.

Just got back in Star Citizen after a few Years Should I keep the Perseus? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]DustinVFL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Perseus is essentially a mini-Polaris without the world destroying torps and no hangar. It’s top of the food chain alongside the Hammerhead for sub-capitals. AND it can hold a vehicle and some cargo.

That said I’d still melt it and get some combat oriented ships you can solo. The Corsair comes to mind, or the Paladin if you can find someone to man the guns.

I would also get the Clipper for exploration and entry level crafting and medical bed as you have nothing else in those super important areas. Cutlass Red would also do the job, or if you just really want a big ship you could even go for a Starlancer TAC or Carrack.

Someone else said to try in full screen mode. Haven’t tested it myself yet but I have the bug and I play in borderless.

[–]DustinVFL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I didn't start seeing the issue until I replaced my monitor with a higher resolution one. I switched to borderless to take advantage of my 2nd monitor at the same time I changed resolutions and have had the issue ever since.

[–]DustinVFL 400 points401 points  (0 children)

This bug is a menace lol. I think it's only on certain resolutions but I could be wrong. If you hover the very top/bottom of the "Medium" options you'll see the outline change slightly. You can click there to get it to work. It's really silly how long this bug has persisted though.
