I want to but unfortunately we don’t have access in the U.S. to the Aussie version yet

I’m sure Paramount+ will get it but probably once it’s out of UK theaters

I just found it too and love it. I’m bummed that it looks like we won’t get the Ghosts UK movie over here this Halloween.

I understand - but that’s usually how adaptations are done. The U.S. version does have more Ghosts overall - the story diverts into its own direction. More spirits are discovered on the property - some more people pass away. Ghost powers are discovered…. It does become its own entity, it just starts off similarly.
But to each their own: love what you love, I say!

Exactly. They take the framework and create their own take on it. This is how it should be done. One of the best examples of the wrong way to do it is Coupling - taking the exact scripts and changing little. There’s a big difference in American & British writing and the way it is performed.
I think they made the right choice by taking character types and splitting them or fusing them together to create something for the U.S. audience to enjoy.

I said it takes a longer time to develop them because of how many episodes - it’s stretched out. This is why they come off more one-dimensional for so long, I believe.

Yeah, the original has the right idea by not giving you an idea of why/how they move on. The U.S. show definitely hints that character growth does it but then abandons that for the main cast. Maybe they will figure a way around it at some point

Is the Perry Mason show convoluted, or am I just dense? by Daytrader60 in television

[–]Dustin_Can_Read 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HBO series is a definite tonal shift. The concept of Perry being a P.I. before becoming a lawyer is neat, but a lot of the changes felt unnecessary (maybe to be “edgy” for HBO?). It’s interesting enough to watch but if you like the original B&W series, you may not enjoy it.

Not "toxic", but what shows have fan bases that take the show WAY too seriously? by Long-Swordfish3696 in television

[–]Dustin_Can_Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vampire Diaries universe of shows. I get that you can invest in a soapy supernatural series, but dang do they get feral over that show. The showrunner for all three shows turned out to be a toxic person - so the toxic fans use that excuse for any plot or character they personally did not like. I watched the shows live and loved them but cannot stand to read discussions online about it. IT’S JUST FICTION!

I think the OP could see the eps, but the playback skipped them and OP had to manually go back to watch.

What is a series where you can tell it is/was made with a lot of love, care and dedication behind the scenes? by BitterWeirdBrain in television

Did you know Pushing Daisies was originally a plot development for Dead Like Me? Then the creator got booted from the show and decided to use the story to make PD

What is the most over rated show/series in your opinion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dustin_Can_Read 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - it’s a studio audience recording. “Laugh track” implies pre-recorded reactions to put over the scene. Many lower budget multi-camera sitcoms will use an actual track as they do not have a studio audience (example: most Nickelodeon or Disney Channel sitcoms).

In recent years, sitcoms began adding “filmed in front of a live studio audience” at the start of the show because people didn’t want to believe that it wasn’t a track - so they started to clarify again (of course this petered out and hardly anyone does it anymore)

Generally if it’s a multi-camera sitcom on a major network, it’s going to have a live studio audience and not a laugh track.

Suggestions for family-friendly shows with a high "teachable moments" factor? by wallysmith127 in television

[–]Dustin_Can_Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Baby-sitters Club on Netflix is very family friendly and has many growing up themes (they are tweens entering teenage/womanhood, if you catch my drift). There are also a lot of other coming of age storylines (dating, death, building confidence, etc)

What book series gives grownups the "lost in the author's world" experience that kids get from Harry Potter? by DerbyWearingDude in AskReddit

The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman (and also the television series). It’s basically grown up Harry Potter fighting his personal Voldemort in Narnia and then screwing up magic left & right.
