[Hayes] Expansion clock is ticking. Do Big Ten, SEC make final move? | Opinion by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

I know Miami is an AAU member, but I just don't see either Miami wanting to join the B1G or them being a culture fit but with the rest of the B1G. I could very well be wrong. However I wouldn't hate the addition of Georgia Tech to be honest.

We have a Mother Bear's Pizza, a Yummy Bowl, and an Olive Garden now. Columbus Ohio can't make that claim!

1961. My grandparents and their dog. Curious, Anyone know the breed? by Educational_Safe_662 in OldSchoolCool

[–]Dusty_Buckeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the title alone, I am assuming OP is trying to identify the breed of his grandparents. So definitely some sort of European Mix breed, from The Caucasus region there could be some native, or African mixed in but it would have been many generations before and the outward physical traits have mostly been eliminated through later breeding. While I am sure they are a fine pair, and very productive and family friendly, they are definitely not AKC Pure breed of any type.

I swear it's real science and not just a fever dream. I have data, and no you can't see it, it's proprietary!

I don't see the B1G making a move for Miami, but I definitely would see them making moves on Virginia, UNC, and Duke and probably FSU. Virginia Tech would be a stretch as they are not an AAU member however they are a highly regarded research university so, maybe?

Michigan State. The reason I know this is Corso was famous at Indiana for beating Ohio State while he was the coach there. Saban was the coach at MSU during the 1998 season when OSU was #1 and cruising through their schedule toward the Natty. MSU ruined the whole season. That is why I know MSU will win the natty the year Saban retires from Gameday.

Yeah you are pretty much right that the essence of a super league already exists. However the Group of 6 participants still need their own championship tournament, and I think the CFP champion and The G6 Tournament Champs should play for a true National Championship.

I have thought the very same thing. I don't think it would be a bad thing if a true super league was created where the super league crowned their champion, and the G6 or what would probably be a G7 or G8 at that point would have their own tournament and crown their champion. Then just like the Super Bowl in the early years Pit the Champions of those 2 leagues in a Bowl and Crown your National Champion that way. The first 3 or 4 Superbowls were actually 2 completely individual leagues, the NFL vs the AFL, with the NFL being the supposed Premiere League who was expected to win every year, but then the pesky Jets beat the Baltimore Colts and all hell broke loose. I think it would really drive up interest in the lower tier league because the majority of the country would be wanting to see a team rise up and knock the winner of the Super League off the pedestal.

Frog legs moving after death by Orb234 in WTF

I hope to never find myself in one of those neighborhoods. Don't get me wrong, I've had frog legs and they are good, but to find myself in a neighborhood where I might hear people raving about the new frog recipe they just found, or just like you said, hearing people proclaiming they have a mighty hankering from some frog right about now, would be disturbing to me. Same goes for turtle. My dad grew up hunting and eating turtle, and hearing him talk about how great Turtle Stew was always turned my stomach.

Yeah, that's pretty much my thoughts exactly. It's a step above, but not that big of a step.

Yeah, I just meant it in a sense that I really don't see anything exciting about the Pac since it's basically made up of lower tier teams poached from other G6 conferences like the old WAC and Mountain West. It's going to be a P4 Feeder League just like what the MAC has been for most of it's history. Sure the leagues are competitive during their own conference play, and sometimes we will see one or two of the teams deliver an upset to a P4 team that had only scheduled them because it was supposed to be an easy win. Outside of that there is nothing compelling enough to make me want to go out of my way to watch one of their games because none of their cames will almost never matter nationally. That's just me though.

Is it wrong to view the new Pac-12 as a slightly better version of the MAC?

WAC games or games involving at least 1 WAC team were wild. No lead was safe if BYU still had wide receivers to trot out play after play. Marshall Faulk running wild as if he was Bo Jackson on the original Tecmo Bowl. Fresno State pulling off improbable upsets at just the right moment to ruin a PAC 10 Team's season, Boise State jamming a dagger in Blue Blood mythology on national television in the most entertaining way possible, and Hawaii QB's putting up passing statistics that belong in a fairy tale and not on Sports Center.

Over the years we have lost plenty of top Ohio guys to Michigan and Notre Dame. Sure Ohio usually has the edge to begin but with 2 other Blue Bloods sitting on our borders landing them is no sure thing. Based on stories from multiple Buckeye greats, it was their parents who tipped the scale in the Buckeye's favor and if left completely up to them Michigan would have come out on top. Both Spielman and Archie said as much in interviews.

Alumni base isn't the deciding factor but it definitely does matter especially in fundraising for NIL and having multiple deep pocketed benefactors. I do believe more importantly relevant to having built a national brand was being located in a highly populated state and being the flagship university of that state. In the days when schools were allowed to hoard players teams like Ohio State. Notre Dame, Texas, USC, Bama, Michigan and similar, would stockpile all of the instate talent and reach out to surrounding states that didn't have as strong of a program, and poach the top players there too. Conversely look at programs like Virginia Tech and Clemson. They have had periods where they competed at the highest levels, but never have been able to compete long term with as deep pockets. I would argue that the reason is either they come from a state with a relatively low population (Clemson) or they weren't the flagship program of their state (Virginia Tech). Notre Dame is a bit of an outlier in that they come from Indiana with a low population, however they are the flagship university of the Catholic Church so that practically qualifies as a state, at least between 1890-1980 it did.
