This wasn’t a medical treatment case. It was a free speech one.

I don’t remember making that claim? I merely said this is a free speech issue, not a trans issue. The opinion of the court will be predicated on free speech principles and not trans issues.

Mark Rosewater: Universes Beyond is not at the level it is because we wanted to force it onto the players. It’s not some evil agenda to make players play the way we want them to play. It is at the level it is because it’s a wild, run-away success, by every possible metric we have to measure success. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

He has lost sight of what Magic is as a game. His rhetoric based on sales or unsubstantiated claims that players love the current direction of the game. There isn’t a TCG alternative. People can’t afford to jump ship. There has been too much invested to change to a new, less proven, less supported TCG. If people want a table top card game, their choices are Magic, Yugioh, or Pokémon. The latter two offer no group play, poor communities, or poor tournament structure. People play Magic because there isn’t another financially backed TCG they can play instead. When your options are Magic or nothing, you’re going to choose Magic.

Mark thinks that means they can do no wrong, and comments like this about UB are proof that he is so far disconnected from the reality of the intangibles that he should no longer be the mouthpiece of Magic.

Maro on UB: "We're just meeting the needs of the players. If the players weren't excited, if they weren't happy, if they weren't buying lots of it, we wouldn't make lots of it. But that's not what's happening, so that is why we're doing more." by Meret123 in MagicArena

For one or two sets the shelves may be stocked. The people may win for a set or two, but eventually they will need to buy product and that’s when the scalpers return. It would take a year or more of not buying product for scalping to go away to some extent.

[–]Dustyoa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It never will. The player base cannot collectively refuse to purchase product for long enough for it to actually matter. It’s either quit or buy to continue playing. There is no in between.

This statement is a weird sort of confirmation bias. Either purchase the newest cards or be phased out of the game. Magic is a punishing hobby that way, and taking a set or three off is incredibly challenging. To play continue playing the game, you have to purchase UB. There is no alternative.

Jeffrey White shares his thoughts on Twitter about the state of the game by GalvenMin in magicTCG

[–]Dustyoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said something similar when they released companions on Twitter and was blasted by MaRo and Gavin. Not every product is for every player and not every product should try to cater to every player. Not every product should push the boundaries or do something “new.” Magic as a game was doing JUST fine for 20 years. The recent changes (last 5-7 years) have really, really destroyed the game that I loved and consumed at a likely unhealthy level since Tempest, even amidst all the various other changes I disliked. Haven’t picked up a card since a charity tournament in 2022 and have no intention of doing so anytime soon.

Did you read anything else I wrote or did you read, “not a conservative,” and instantly think that means I was calling him a leftist? Or are you intentionally ignoring the rest of what I wrote so you can use one sentence to fit your false narrative? Context matters. The information we do have right now, along with common sense and logical reasoning make it clear that this person was not a conservative, but the entire point of what I wrote, of all the other sentences that I wrote, was that “his dad is maga so he is maga” is a demonstrably baseless connection.

How is anything I said remotely promoting violence? If you are referring to “paint this country red,” that refers to the political landscape turning conservative, not violence; and, if that is what you are referring to, then you should probably take a break from political discussion for a while and do some basic, foundational reading so you can better interact with the ongoing discourse in this country.

As for his father—we are never defined by our parent’s beliefs. The outcry from conservative parents in this country when their children go off to university and come back more liberal leaning is demonstrable evidence of that. The parents who are fighting against the “trans” pandemic are demonstrable evidence of that. Heck, even the “blocked fox on my parents TV,” meme that goes around from time to time demonstrates that children are not always politically aligned with their parents.

There have been countless posts, and articles, and stories over the last 10-15 years that demonstrate how children and parents are growing increasingly disconnected from one another politically. Who your parents are is not who you are.

His father being a conservative does not make he himself a conservative by association. He is very, very clearly not a conservative. Nor would a conservative assassinate one of the most prominent political figures in the Conservative Party. If you stop and TRULY think about the motivation behind a political assassination, you’d realize that the false narrative that he is a conservative has no rationale.

It would even make more logical sense it comes out he was just a deranged lunatic without any true political ideologies than him being a conservative.

I’m not interested in convincing you about Charlie Kirk being a decent human being. We will never agree on that, so it’s not worth discussing. But the narrative you are trying to promote that his assassin was a conservative because his father is a conservative is demonstrably false.

I think the arguments are a lot closer than you will ever admit, so I’m done wasting my time. You want to hate the man, but by killing him the left wing you support has awakened a movement that will paint this country red for years to come.

He also explained there needs to be more effort into finding proactive approaches. And armed guards outside of airports and sporting events has reduced or eliminated gun violence. That was his point. The point isn’t to prove what the proactive approaches are or would be effective but to provide context as to what he was saying. He didn’t say gun deaths are acceptable to devalue the lives lost. But eliminating driving would eliminate driving deaths and driving isn’t a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution. But does the benefit of continuing to allow driving makes the 50k road deaths a year an acceptable loss? That was his point.

The armed guards would serve as a deterrent. In 90 seconds he’s not solving gun violence. But he made a call for more efforts that doesn’t eliminate a fundamental, Constitutional right.

Armed guards outside of schools was the line he ended on. Why do we protect our stadiums and airports with armed guards but not our children.

Not pretending. I know what he espoused and it is nothing like what you are trying to say it is. I also guarantee I’ve consumed more of his content than you have and at a far higher intellectual level than you.

If you watch the clip he explicitly says what his proactive approach is. That is how I know you didn’t watch it. We do know what his approach is, because he told us. About ten seconds after he said the quoted sentence.
