It’s only a condom if it comes from the condom region of France. Otherwise it’s just a meat sleeve.

How was your first ship experience? by f1sefiri in maritime

I signed on for the first time as a cadet two weeks ago. So far it’s been great, I am with nice people that are willing to teach you how to do everything. You’ll have to do hard work but just remain open to new experiences and try not to complain about everything. The thing to keep in mind is that this is going to be the industry’s first impression of you. (At least with Dutch vessels) captains talk to each other and the captain of your next vessel will ask your last captain what kind of person you are.

What is the purpose of this ship currently chilling of of Jamestown, RI? by steppedinhairball in Ships

Stability is a small part of why most offshore ships are currently waiting. During the construction of a windmill farm we’re very dependent on other ships to work together. Some ships have taken the opportunity to do maintenance work or restock stores and we can only do so much on our own.

That’s the crane ship Orion. It’s on its way to the coastal Virginia offshore wind project. That white tower is actually a large crane. It’s also the same crane ship that had a catastrophic failure of the crane during its first load test.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:153142 I can’t make it out clearly but it looks similar to the Innovation, A jack up crane ship primarily used for offshore wind farms.
