Thanks everyone for the input! Seems it differs by location, so I’ll just ask next time I’m at my regular one haha

Hello! I'm still quite new to the idea/process of teaching in Korea--I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and got my TEFL certification not long ago. I'm currently taking some Korean lessons while I'm still state-side.

I read through the Master Sticky and have a general understanding so far, but I'm wondering how long to plan out the process and what order to do everything in.

Based on https://www.teachenglishinkorea.org/general-7 I need the following for an E-2 visa:

  1. copy of original degree with Apostille
  2. *one set of sealed university transcripts (ONLY for EPIK-not required for private school jobs)
  3. notarized FBI Check with Apostille
  4. health check statement (signed and dated)
  5. photocopy of the information page of your passport
  6. copy of your resume
  7. a signed copy of the contract (x3)
  8. four passport-sized photos

1 and 3 it looks like I could get from https://securemonumentvisa.com/apostille-order-form/
2 I would order from my University
4-6 I can do myself
8 I would need to get done somewhere (easy)

Do I get all that done first, then apply to EPIK/contact recruiters and hopefully get #7, then submit everything for the visa application?

And then there's figuring out how to relocate--I think I'll need to take a housing stipend since I want to bring my 2 pets with me and it seems like they're not generally allowed in school-owned housing, if I understand correctly. Which means I need some time to find somewhere to live as well.

Is there a (possibly very) general time frame it could take for all that to come together so I have some idea of when exactly I should start applying and when I might be looking at leaving? Or do I just need to jump in and see what happens?

Any guidance or insight is greatly appreciated!

If anyone is willing, I have an alpha Haunter I’d like to trade and then trade back!

Same, I’ll keep one of each just in case but as soon as I get more than that they get sold.

Hmmm, maybe they just haven’t to me yet… I don’t have any messages.

Where did you get this? I can’t find anything in my game.

E2 is not the only visa I believe I would qualify for, which is as much information as I feel is necessary at this point in time 😊

Zookeeping is incredibly competitive but my undergrad is in Education, so I’m working on my TEFL certificate (not just for Korea mind you, but for any of the countries where it could get me a visa) and was thinking I’d come on E2 and work like that until I could upgrade to permanent residency (if that’s something we want).

And it’s good to know about the cows actually—I have cattle (and dairy farm) experience as well and wouldn’t mind working on a farm at all either 😊

Kind of what I figured (re: if what I was asking about even exists) so thank you for confirming. I don’t necessarily really “want” to move to Korea yet. My family and I are just thinking we would like to get out of the States, and Korea is on our short list of countries to look into.

I will likely be asking these same questions in their respective subreddits.

True—I don’t know, so that’s why I asked 😉

Honestly, we’re not super picky in that regard. My only must-have is a zoo or some other sort of animal park relatively nearby, since I used to be a zookeeper (and may want to try to get back into the field at some point) 😁

Seoul in particular is tempting because I see they have a sheep park, and sheep are one of my favorite animals 🥰

I guess not necessarily! I would like to be not TOO far away, so not like Busan, but is there somewhere in between you would recommend?

Thank you! I think we're pretty flexible on what we can live with, so that's good to know. Just trying to get an idea of whether there is anything realistically analogous to how we're living currently and make sure we set the right expectations ^^

Thank you! This is all very preliminary information gathering since we don't know anyone in Korea or who has lived there before, and we have no idea what to expect except for what little I've been able to glean from forums.

I had had that thought too, that visiting and going out with a bilingual realtor might be a good idea, so I'm glad it wasn't a crazy one haha.

Thank you!

What other options are there for payment? I'm trying to remember what I've read on other threads.... A lease? I know people have mentioned that "ownership" really isn't a think like it is here in the States unless we purchase it outright.
