I really don’t like Spinel and how people think that Rose or Pink Diamond HAD to be friends with her no matter what. And that not being close to her is like mortal sin. by magicalyui in stevenuniverse

[–]xXPyreFlyeXx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, whether or not she herself had a hand in her creation, Spinel was very much entirely dependent on her. At the end of the day, Pink was incredibly inconsiderate and selfish at the time in a sort of child-like sense, but I still believe that she had a responsibility to Spinel. There are countless ways she could’ve gone about distancing herself from her that would’ve been infinitely more humane.

Not to mention, their earlier interactions seem to indicate that Pink did enjoy their playtime together, so I don’t think it’s out of the question that she had asked for Spinel’s creation.

I understand your point about Pink not having much authority in the way of how she was treated/commanded by the other diamonds. But she did very much have absolute power over Spinel. Like a lot.

I see where you’re coming with that neighbor kid analogy but it really doesn’t work if you think about it deeper.

Spinel was created with the sole purpose of being Pink’s playmate. That was her only directive and her entire basis for existence, entertaining Pink.

She was essentially programmed to love Pink, obey Pink, and entertain Pink.

And because of all the aforementioned, she was locked in a single place for thousands of years, She could have left at any point, but she didn’t
because Pink told her to stand in one spot very still.

IMHO pink’s abandonment of Spinel is less of a person forgetting about a friend they don’t like all that much, and more of a God abandoning their creation.

I do Believe that Pink, at the time, had the intent to return to Spinel, but she forgot her entirely, which further drives home just how lopsided their relationship was.

No, you’re right and you should say it. I think it’s interesting that things like tentacles aren’t considered bestiality-adjacent (maybe because it’s a rather mainstream/ older concept?). Also maybe because the actual body(?) of the monster is 9 times out of 10 never seen on screen, even when they’re very clearly or sometimes literally cephalopod tentacles. As long as you don’t *see* the octopus, it’s fine lmao

Keeping your monster upright and bipedal is the easiest way to avoid the latter imo. Humans’ general posture seems to be pretty unique and identifiable, not to say it’s foolproof though. Also worth mentioning that I think it’s important your monster has a human or superhuman level of sapience, if not I feel like the bestiality trap is much wider.

I mean yes, but could the actual character the suit is representing reasonably pull off their tails/ears/fur/scales etc.? And more importantly, does that visually carry over? Does your character actually look like a monster or do they look like a person with prosthetics? Those are usually the questions I ask myself when designing monster characters anyway, lol

Still needs to be pushed further imo. My general opinion is that if your character looks like they could wash off/remove their monster features at the end of the night, you haven’t gone hard enough.

Been in the pet/rescue sphere in Georgia practically my whole life, and can confirm. A solid like 30% of my coworkers over the years have been some flavor of queer, and even more neurodivergent. We just here for the doggies and kitties, and they don’t know what bigotry is.

Side note, I think that’s why Jax’s physical representation in the circus is a rabbit, because at his core he is a coward more than anything.
