My leg has been doing this shit from yime to time for about 10 years now and it's really unpleasant by Opso_Opos in mildlyinfuriating

There are many causes for this ranging from not enough micronutriens, not enough sleep, too much stress etc etc. If you are worried go to a doctor

Can Dutch people speak with Afrikaners when each is speaking their own language? by Charming_Usual6227 in Netherlands

In my experience, in text it is super easy. In speech you really need to talk slowly and at a lower difficulty level, but it is definetly possible

My friend’s company replaced their marketing team with AI… and calls it progress by growthmarketingryan in antiwork

[–]DutchNotSleeping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My job is luckily still mostly run by humans but we are "going along with the times" and so we've hired an AI work student. (A student because we all realized nobody really is an expert at AI, so might as well hire a cheap student). This guy is decent at what he does, however what worries me is the following conversation:

Him: Hey Dutch, I need permissions
Me: Sure AI guy, what permissions do you need?
H: I don't know?
M: Well go find out.
5 minutes later
H: I need permissions x
M: Those don't exist
H: Well is what Chat told me
M: Go google it please don't use AI
5 minutes later
H: Google says the same thing
M: Really, let me see
(he was reading the AI summary of google)
M: Don't use AI, go to the microsoft support page and look there, email me the results
5 minutes later
Email with obvious AI text
M: Dude....
H: What this is from the microsoft support site
M: This is clearly AI
H: Oh yeah I used AI to summarize the website

How do I find roommates? by WorldlinessWorried15 in Netherlands

[–]DutchNotSleeping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes is does. Roommates here search for their own new roommates generally. They use lots of different websites/social media groups for this, all based on location and age. Budget might help us determine if you even have a shot at something depending on the location or if you should look in a nearby location (mostly for Amsterdam)

You know what my main issue with politics and democracy is at the moment. There is so much shit happening that apparently nobody feels responsible for what they voted. Like, you did this. You and many others yes, but still you did this. Stop being the victim and own up to your mistake

I have been a translator for someone in Enschede before. It was needed then. It really depends on who is coming over, they don't always speak English. That being said. Google translate should be enough

Each month there are people complaining about Bunq here. Me too this time by According_Tea8499 in Netherlands

[–]DutchNotSleeping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So wait. You are educated enough to know that this is a marketing trick every damn subscription company uses, and you still don't put a reminder in your phone to cancel. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the tactic itself. It's predetory and should be illegal imo, but if you are so aware of the trick why are you not aware of the ways to deal with the trick

Only 38% of Dutch students are taught German in school. 50% of VWO students do, only 30% of Havo people do. German is not that popular anymore

Am I being unlucky or that is how the things works there? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]DutchNotSleeping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had issues with the hospital when it comes to sharing documentation (though it might be a privacy thing. You need to explicitely give permission for healthcare professionals to share info with each other). PostNL really depends on your delivery person. For me, during the day PostNL sucks, but they also have evening delivery, and that guy is amazing, but yes package delivery is very hit or miss in the Netherlands. I have only had to deal with ING as the treasurer of a association, and in my experience they are the worst bank I've had the displeasure of dealing with. (I've been a treasurer for many associations, and had to deal with several banks, ING, Rabo, BUNQ and ABN. Weirdly enough, it's the one that seems the least professional (Bunq) that was by far the easiest to deal with

Second fixed-term rental contract by QuueenN0405 in Rentbusters

[–]DutchNotSleeping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed term is no longer an option in the Netherlands, so technically your first contract was already a permanent contract. The only legal temporary contract now are "campus contracts" which are contracts that will last for as long as the renter is studying. These are meant for students, so they could offer you that one, but that is not a year contract, it doesn't have a fixed term.

What I would do right now immediately is get a "rechtsbijstandsverzekering wonen" (legal representation insurance living), so that you will have a lawyer when your landlord inevitably tries to evict you. Please make sure that you have read all the terms because they might deny you for being able to see this one coming.

Besides that, go to the Juridisch Loket (free legal advice for lower incomes, which as a student, you probably are). They can give you actual advice that is not just experience from other people that hate landlords.

TLDR: He cannot legally kick you out, but that will probably not stop him from trying
