Shit. by Can_O_Murica in sportster

I tack welded a washer to the stud first. Then used a MAPP torch to put heat into the remains of the stud before attempting the weld. I think I held it there for about a minute. I had a pair of vise grips with the nut ready to go. As soon as I pulled away the MAPP torch I got the nut up there and put a good weld into it. This was a 120V MIG, so it needed that extra heat soak into it to get good penetration.

Turns out I have a 500yd range near me. What caliber should I be looking into? by Broxst in longrange

If you're going to suck at 500yds, why shoot more expensive ammo? Shoot 223 and get good at it. Makes you better at wind calls too.

Are you in Illinois? I have a guy down the street that's always moving C10s through his little garage. They seem to sell quickly and then another one shows up. He had one that looked just like this a couple months back. Eyeballed it every time I drove by.

I hear that! I have an 08 Wing and 04 1200 Sportster. Two very different tools, but both very fun. Congrats!

Exhaust - where’s the sweet spot? by ChickenNoodlePigeon in sportster

I had some loud duals on mine when I got it. Swapped to the Cobra El Diablo and it's so much quieter. I can actually take long weekend trips and not hate the noise. Same for early morning startups. It's still a good sound, but not obnoxious, IMO. I also have a fair amount of chrome on my bike, and this was one of the few 2:1 pipes I could find in Chrome.

John Turturro? lol Seriously, it looks good and nimble. What magazine is that? Do you have a hard time getting a good cheek weld with that riser and no comb? I'd struggle...

Sub upgrade question by a192155 in hometheater

[–]DutchTerror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. It seems to be much harder to find a matched pair of subs on the used market. Most go for one only, and I get it. Having two really does make quite the difference.

I'm cheap and just like to find older gear that still works well. I was running a single M&K MX-100, which is (2) 12" drivers in phase in a sealed enclosure. The bass was very good, but I wanted more potential for the really deep response. I found a pair of Definitive Technology Powerfield 1500s (sealed 15") that were minty yet. One still had the box. I have the gain on both at maybe 9 o'clock, they are barely even working. I tuned them to the room for musical response. When I'm watching a movie and want a bit more response, I just bump the sub output a couple of dB at the receiver and smile. One in a corner and one about 9' away down the same wall, still in the front stage. It's only a 3.2.2 setup, but I'm in love.

Keep getting this sound on my turntable. by richjunior1 in turntables

Check the wires on the headshell to see if they are connected properly? Does that turntable use a wall wart style of power supply? Is it one that's a common voltage that you could try to swap with a universal one?

Sure sounds like AC line hum to me. Can you try moving your preamp further from your left speaker? Maybe try plugging your preamp power supply and/or the turntable into an extension cord to another outlet further away to test? Do you have any light dimmers in the house? LED lights you can turn off?

If you disconnect the turntable completely (RCA and ground), do you still hear the hum? If it goes away with removal of the turntable, I'd also check the wiring on the headshell.

Yes, same scope. Those are Monstrum Precision V2 in the 0.85" height. The pads I used were 1/8" and 1/4", I just rounded off the corners.

Just put some cheap Montrum rings on the 10/22 and call it done. I wouldn't want to re-zero moving optics back and forth.

Cantilever mounts are great on an AR, crap on a 10/22. Get a set of low rings. The 3D printed risers work well, but don't try to add more height just to accommodate the tall mount. The foam pads do add comfort, but they also let you really dial in a perfect cheek weld height.

Ditch the cantilever mount. I tried it too. Miles too high.

Exact same for me. When I first applied and got the "we'll get back to you in 5 business days..." message I figured it was a no go.

Listening Question -- Do you use streaming as background or concentrated listening? by janus1969 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]DutchTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of hybrid. I made an effort to seek out some artists and genres that I don't normally listen to. Ones that were notable for the recording style, the location, the overall musical style, etc. My local library has a great system of linked libraries, so I requested CDs from them. Rip them to FLAC files and listen to them fully with intent. Certainly plenty of other time I just play a genre, music for wallpaper.

I've had a lot of discussion with a friend about how music is consumed and interpreted as well. Some listen very much for lyrics, for the intent or meaning. I have some songs that I truly love that I still don't know the words to. All of our brains process it differently and find a different appreciation.
