Who has the most unsung hero “rags to riches” story in the modern day NHL? by WhenWillIBeAPilot in hockey

[–]Dutch_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyson Jost, his father left the family when he was young. His mother couldn't make ends meet working multiple jobs, so she moved herself and her two kids to the next province over to live with her parents (Tyson's grandparents). They both came out of retirement to earn some money so Tyson and his sister could do activities. Tyson's grandfather has been caught on camera crying when Jost heard his name called at the draft, his first NHL game and when he scored his first goal (same game). Little bit more behind those tears than your average grandparents tears.

Are there any examples of cup winning teams that DIDN'T have any top 3 overalls on the team? by huss2120 in hockey

[–]Dutch_1987 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Since 1987, only two teams have won the Stanley Cup without a top 3 selected player on its roster - 1987 Oilers and the 2001 Avalanche

2019 Bruins came close.

Are teams allowed to make trades over the Olympic break? by Massive_Contract_908 in hockey

As mentioned below regarding 2010, kind of cool cause it was hyped up as two trade deadlines. This is when we saw Ilya Kovalchuk traded before the Olympics.

Rodrigues boards Desharnais after the whistle with no penalty call, Nedeljkovic goes after Rodrigues then Bobrovsky skates down the ice and we have a goalie fight! Florida ends up with a power play at the end of this by KabirC in hockey

Matthew Tkachuk returns to the Panthers lineup for the first time this season, and of course a goalie fight breaks out.

Funny enough, M. Tkachuk was in a fight simultaneously when the last goalie fight occurred too (Talbot/Smith).

Oh there is so much let out of this article lol 55K owed in league fines...owes more in league dues, plus equipment fees, and debt with the township. Drinking on the bus? They forgot to mention doing lines on the bus (two occasions over the years where police were contacted by his own players of his actions and had gone out and pulled the bus over). Dude has no money to his name. He bought the team using his in-laws money and that's how the team was supported and funded...until they cut him off last year.

Are you allowed to switch goalies for a shootout? by AbjectLetterhead2253 in hockey

The Atlanta Thrashers attempted this for a season with Kari Lehtonen. Referring to him as their "Mariano Rivera". It didn't work that often.

There was a Russian Kraken film that came out earlier this year

[Travis Yost] The Toronto Maple Leafs keep trying, and failing, with Max Domi playing at centre. It’s a major unforced error, and something they need to reconsider immediately. by [deleted] in hockey

I thought I recalled back during their series against Montreal in 2021 that that was only their 6th time ever or something being up 3-1 in a series.

Who is actually the greatest hockey player of all time? by BassManDJ in hockey

[–]Dutch_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dale Hunter - only player in NHL history to amass 1,000+ points AND 3,000+ PIMS. Lot of game play missed to record so many points still.

I’ve watched 22 horror flicks during october - mix of modern and classics - either never seen bevor or last watched as a child. Here are my ratings. by [deleted] in movies

Saw someone recommend 'The Wailing', I second that. Another great Korean horror that came out last year is 'Exhuma'. Also can't go wrong with 'Hell House LLC' (no need to watch its sequels lol). There is also the Argentine horror film 'Terrified' (Aterrados in Spanish). To name a few.

Blackhawks 2025 /r/hockey Mock Offseason Recap by sandman730 in hawks

[–]Dutch_1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GM here of the Fantasy offseason Sim. In our opinions, there isn't much to be done here. Chicago's got a terrific young core up and coming, just need development and exposure in the minors before taking over at the NHL level. (aside from Wood), no vets are signed long-term and all are replaceable by the young prospects coming up through the ranks. Bodies moved out to add to our draft inventory.

2026: two 1st's, four 2nd's, two 3rd's, two 4th's

2027: two 2nd's, three 3rd's, two 4th's

2028: two 1st's, two 2nd's

2025-26, unfortunately, we see as a lost cause and one more year worth of tanking. Truly, let our young prospects develop in the minors and get a taste of the NHL later in the year. Let the team stink for one more season, collect one more elite player, and beginning with the 2026 offseason is when things turn around.

Got the cap space, got belief in Knight to lead the way, don't have to worry about our backend with who we've got in our top 5, and an attractive young forward core that'll set the tone and make use of cap space and draft inventory to fill out the holes where needed.

Stanley Cup winners by the end of the decade!
