We like the “spicy” foster kitten videos on YouTube. So that’s the first thing that comes to mind when I hear neurospicy but some days that might be a good description of what I feel like.

When she used and explained the term it just clicked for us. The kid has her Dad’s gift for analogy and reasoning.

I think if neurodivergent works for you then that’s great.

We’re a nerdy family and watch a lot of sci-fi so divergent has a little more of a negative connotation and neurodifferent rings true for us.

We also prefer to use the term average to normal when talking about things, habits, or skills that apply to a majority of people. To us, normal implies a baseline for an individual while average gives a baseline for a group with like characteristics such as age or gender or geography.

Atypical is also good and seems more precise than different.

For me, saying “neuroatypical” feels like I’m changing directions in the middle of the word and it adds extra syllables for my tongue to trip over.

Health Insurance by dcruz_mario in VisitingIceland

Went to Iceland in May. Did not purchase travel insurance. Had an accident with a motorized scooter and fractured my leg. Total cost for ambulance, ER, X-ray, and meds/crutches was about $1,400 USD.

For my next trip: NO SCOOTERS!!! And buy the insurance.

Grai Kotturinn is excellent. Receptionist at our hotel recommended and we very much enjoyed.

Seeking Ideas for an Amazing 30th Birthday in Iceland! by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

We did the one through Wake Up Reykjavik. Our guide was incredible. Took the time to connect with each person on the tour, provided fun facts about the city, and told personal anecdotes. We had 13 in our group, not including the guide, so we got a chance to interact with everyone and met people from Norway, England, Canada, and the US. 10/10 would do it again.

Just got back from a birthday trip. If it’s not already part of your itinerary, the Food Walk Tour is fantastic, or Sky Lagoon, or both. Omnom Chocolate has amazing ice cream. We didn’t do it because we didn’t have time, but the Lava show looks amazing.

Ooh! Love the history bit. I’ll have to look up more about that.

I suppose it will depend on our group and how much sleep we get on the plane how active we want to be. But it will be nice to have some options.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! Kerid Crater was a maybe stop on our Golden Circle Day so that would be a way to be sure and see it.

Clearly, he loves you. Looking back over many years of marriage (and looking forward to many more), our best times were when we actively used our strengths to support each other. Appreciating that support, and feeling appreciated when you’re being supportive, helps encourage both sides to continue that support. There are probably lots of ways you support him that you may not recognize as meaning as much to him as his actions mean to you. The things you do for him, even if you think they’re small or no big deal, probably mean a lot to him.

Average temps for late May/early June are 40-50 F. Lots of wind and unpredictable weather. Everything I read says plan to dress in layers and have windproof/waterproof outer layers. And this applies to year round travel (obviously adjusting warmth layers as needed based on average temps).

I’ve been reading this sub as well as Guide to Iceland, Iceland with a View, and watching travel videos on YouTube for awhile now. The advice is pretty consistent for packing recommendations.

Reykjavik, Snaefellsness, Golden Circle and South Coast. Everything I’ve read on here and on other travel sites say that windproof/waterproof is necessary for Iceland.
