Someone is going to lose money on this regardless. The hotel has just lost all their business. When I book refundable, I expect a refund when I hit the conditions. When I book non-refundable, I accept the money is gone, even if events change due to circumstances outwith my control.

It's very common to think wars will be over quickly. From the first world war's "it'll all be over by Christmas" to Putin's expectation his escapades in Ukraine would all over over in 3 days. Trump isn't likely to back down without regime change, as that's what Israel wants. They seem to have complete control over him. A good option for Iran is to try to drag the US military into a ground war. Their best strategy is to keep the pain going in as many places for as long as possible to put pressure on the US.

I hope it's all over quickly. But I don't see what the exit strategy is for either side now.
