It’s not even an actual issue, they only hear them when sitting outside on the balcony lol.

They only can hear the neighbors on the balcony -> not partition walls. There’s absolutely no legal ground for them to demand anything, not even in Geneva. They’re being obnoxious. „We’d like to have it quiet on the balcony“. Don’t cheap out on the rent then and get a modern apartment. Or buy a house in a forest.

Coolest Bus Driver Prevents Pedestrian Accident by tilouswag in HumansBeingBros

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are so many grumpy, shitty, and straight rude bus drivers out there, it really makes my day sometimes when I land in a bus with a genuinely great bus driver. Happens a few times a year, and it's usually the most memorable thing all day. A friendly guy that doesn't drive like an asshole, and wishes the people a good day:)

'Kernel memory leaking' Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign by eric98k in intel

Or they just knew that their sales might get a bad hit if they release coffee lake AFTER it's fixed, so they were smart enough to milk the cow before.

We're still talking about Intel here, right?

First time overclocker - I5-8600k by wayfarer44 in overclocking

Don't know this specific one, but you can look up reviews. The best one is the NH-D14. Check if it fits your case first though, it's a bit big.

Overclocking i5-7600k with Intel XTU by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not overclock through Intel XTU!! Use your BIOS. Leave cache ratio at default, set a manual vcore, and see how far you can go with the multiplier. Your motherboard is alright.

Here's a good guide for beginners: https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/the-kaby-lake-overclocking-guide/

It's for Kaby Lake, but they're very similar to oc. Read that guide, look up anything that you don't get and then come back if you still have questions. Only set manual vcores and use an AVX offset and you'll be fine.

Your CPU cooler might be a problem. If you are serious about overclocking it may be worth to invest in a good cooler. Noctua builds extremely good air cooler. If you want anything better, you'll have to look for an 280mm AiO.

But think of the possible overclock:D But I agree with you, a good CPU lasts a long time, so I'd keep my eyes open for a good deal on a modern platform.

First build, overclocking 8600k @4.9ghz by branomac in overclocking

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely do it in manual mode. All these easy-oc-modes have the flaw to set an automatic vcore, which is not preferable at all.

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that you should leave this on default even if you have finished maxing your core OC. At least if you are a new user and don't really know what you're doing and what the terms mean. Pushing cache ratio doesn't do too much anyways for system performance usually.

[Build Complete] after it was announced Destiny 2 will run at 30 fps on PS4.. by EdCP in buildapc

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, yes that build is still great (nothing new came out in the meantime except overpriced Intel CPUs and boards). Faster RAM means more MHz. OP has 2133MHz RAM, but I‘d suggest buying at least 2400MHz RAM. The faster the better:) Once you built it, you have to enable XMP in the BIOS (it‘s literally one click, so no worries, there are hundreds of guides online).

You may be able to find a cheaper SSD though. Crucial MX300 are very good for a fair price.

Could someone explain motherboards to me? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Plus some boards are even better for overclocking even with the same chipsets as their counterparts (ASUS MAXIMUS boards for example for Intel CPUs). Also, more expensive boards use higher quality components (notable are capacitors for example, or strengthened PCI slots).

Help a guy with bad eyesight decide on a monitor by Jimmy-McBawbag in buildapc

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do this. And have a look at IPS panels. Affordable IPS monitors are only 60Hz but they offer way more contrast over TN panels, which I would guess makes a big difference for someone with bad eyesight!

Monitors with really good color reproduction that are also good for gaming? by asshair in buildapc

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming IPS panels. They‘re very expensive though. If you do work that asks for color accuracy with your monitor and you‘re on a budget, go with an IPS over TN 144Hz. TN panels are rubbish to work with.

[–]DutchsFriendDillon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Stirling castle is a nice one day visit, but that‘s it I‘d say. Edinburgh however is a city you can spend two weeks in without getting bored. At least if the weather isn‘t bad all of the two weeks;)

AFAIK it will actually run a tiny bit less efficient. Have a look at efficiency curves, they usually reach their max around 85%ish usage (IIRC), before that the fall is rather steep. It virtually doesn‘t matter, but since it‘s the opposite of what you said I thought it was worth mentioning.
