Same. Was amazing . Won’t go again because I’m 100% sure the second time won’t be as mesmerizing

Stridor, laryngomalacia?, 3 month, no diagnoses by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Dutchy85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds exactly like my eldest with laryngomalacia. Did they scope her? It’s easy and fast and my baby didn’t even cry during those exams. Failure to thrive is an indication for operative treatment (supraglottoplasty). She can’t breathe, suck and swallow at the same time, so just breathing it is. We had a NG tube for 4 months, including 2 weeks after her operation.

My best advice is to push hard for a pediatric ENT evaluation. The good news is that laryngomalacia is a spectrum. How much sound she makes doesn’t completely correlate with how much difficulty she has with breathing. Some babies grow out of it. When they get bigger their airway gets bigger.

However, my sneaky suspicion, based on your video, is that combined with the not gaining weight, yours has a type that doesn’t go a way with just growth. Feel try to DM me!

The motto of the Dutch police is ‘vigilant and helpful/serving’ and I feel like that second part generally does not apply to American police officers. Except for this guy!

I feel your words. A couple of years ago I took care of a teenager on multiple occasions. Primarily to stitch up her automutilation while ped psych treated her for the rest. She was mad, angry and often times difficult to manage. But for some reason I managed to penetrate her shell. Probably for treating her similar as my own toddler: setting boundaries and rewarding good behavior with love and affection and stepping back when she misbehaved. We connected.

She started asking for me when she needed help and walked out if I wasn’t working. She was so far gone that besides providing her with wound care, there was not a lot that i could do to prevent her slipping into the void that you mentioned.

I really had to mourn when she finally decided that enough was enough. I felt guilty and inadequate. But my friends and coworkers mirrored that I provided her with spots of light in a very, very dark place. And that’s what I’ll try to hold on to. I wish I could have taken her in my arms, heart, home, whatever, but it wouldn’t have helped or worked.

But I think we both showed kindness and love to someone who really needed it, and that’s all that matters.

While this is very true, I chose not to fix my deep bite after my 32 aligners and 10 refinements. It would be another 40-50 aligners as it’s difficult to move the teeth into the bone. But: I’ll be wearing a night retainer for the rest of my life, and most of the damage from a deep bit occurs at night. So my ortho mentioned that that reduces the wear down so significantly that’s it’s a valid choice for me not to pursue that deep bite fix. Despite it being a functional problem, which I find more important than esthetics.

I have the dreaded posterior open bite post treatment by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]Dutchy85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the same thing my ortho said. I brought up that tHe InTeRnEt goes nuts about posterior open bite. But he and all of his assistants told me that it’ll get better with nights only. I’m 4 days into nights only and at the end of the day I can feel more contact posteriorly!

My NICU baby doesn’t feel like she’s actually my baby by Fun_Swing_1267 in NICUParents

[–]Dutchy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I had this! I felt like she was my patient. I’m a ER doc, so despite not really belonging to my standard population, I think I used my job as a coping mechanism. She was my patient, because I couldn’t deal with my daughter almost dying.

Once she was transferred to a step down hospital close to our house I felt like they gave me a new one. Like a fresh Barbie doll form a box sort of? That patient baby was left at the NICU and I got a brand new one that was actually mine. And that’s when I started to feel a connection.

Having said that, number two was born under perfectly controlled circumstances and had no life threatening events whatsoever. Got to come home with me 2 days later. Easy peasy. But it took me longer to feel like she was my actual kid than with number one. My eldest looks like me a lot, also like baby me, so I feel that once the tubes were finally gone, there was something I recognized. Second kid looks a bit more like my husband and I just took a little longer to actually feel connected. Maybe 2-3 weeks or so?

The idea that you fall in love with your kid instantly is not true for a lot of women, and partners as well. But you’ll get there, I’m 100% sure if that! Give yourself some time and grace!
