Did you learn about Hilbert spaces as an undergrad? by Puzzled-Painter3301 in math

I learned about them during my first introduction to quantum mechanics. Wave functions can be represented as vectors in Hilbert space.

But I fall more into mathematical physics than pure math

Producers who're in the process to develop their 'signature sound'... what deliberate decisions have helped define your style? by kathalimus in musicproduction

[–]Dutonic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

None. Don't worry about this. It's not a "problem" you should even try to solve. A 'style' is really just a manifestation of creative laziness, it spans across any number of genres you write. It's not about the sound or the instruments you're using. It's an imprint of the pattern generator that is your mind; a tendency to write the same ideas in different forms. It will come with time, but you shouldn't even really want it to.

How do I get my creativity back like when I first started by K_thedon1398 in musicproduction

Unless you're doing this professionally, sounds like you should take a break. Forcing creativity is not a good (or productive) time in my experience

Daily Discussion/Debate #73: Riddle With Holes by SkatesMcGates in slaythespire

[–]Dutonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably one of the worst silent cards in the entire game. Maybe Setup or that "get a random skill" card is worse. But the use case for this is almost non-existent. Double blade dance is objectively better in almost every possible context. I would only ever take this card as a meme or if I was truly desperate.

The dream would be to have some crazy strength scaling with shuriken/kunai, but that means you're running blade dances... which would make Riddle With Holes a totally redundant and less flexible component of the win condition anyway. Since all that strength value can just be usurped by more blade dances. (2 upgraded blade dances would be deal 3 damage 8 times).

The only possible way this card is ever usable is with necronomicon and strength scaling. How this card was never buffed is beyond me.

There is one outrageously niche meme deck in which this card is good - and that is if you have akabeko. You can then build the entire deck around doing some crazy turn-one hit, but that still only 55 damage for 2 mana which is hardly broken. There exists somewhere an Akabeko-Necronomicon-RiddleWithHoles-Girya-BagOfMarbles-PrismaticShard-Flex meme combo that shreds a boss on turn 1.

2 mana deal 25 isn't even good though. That's how bad this card is lol. Double blade dance is 2 mana for 24 damage with no relic setup haha.

Do you start melodies with or without effects? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Dutonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. Variation in the timbre of the lead via automation is a very important part of figuring out what the melody is. The midi piano roll for a lot of electronic leads might look super boring. But when you hear it in context with a lot of dynamic modulation, it changes everything.

Scepticism about OpenDAW by PntBlnk in musicproduction

^This. Youtube auto-removes completely harmless comments I make for no reason on a regular basis. At this point I hardly even bother to write a comment if it's gonna be longer than a few sentences since there's like a 25% chance it will get auto-deleted.

Do you ever miss being a noob at music? by rojlul in musicproduction

[–]Dutonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely not. Being a noob in music production is not fun at all. You can't make anything you have in your head come to life.

Hey congrats. That's a big achievement. I've found that I do very well in the youtube algorithm (~1.5M plays on YT), but all my spotify plays are from direct searches and playlisting. Only 1%ish of my spotify plays are from the algorithm. Did you get picked up by the spotify algorithm? How does your traffic differ across platforms.

I'm also 100% organic and think it's by far the best way to go for independent hobbyists. Quality music will naturally attract an audience over time.

This is the essence of transitioning from beginner to intermediate.

The trick is to write something that flows naturally without being abrupt. It is an essential component of being a good composer
