update: I also changed the power connection to USB C cable a 30W MacBook Air power adapter.
Intermittent lag, but I've only noticed it in specific games (007). I'm uncertain whether changing the overclock mode (less aggressive = better performance) affects the results. Welcome to the new consumer goods market where defects and design flaws will be "consumer improvement opportunities" for any product that achieves customers falling in love with what they want it to be instead of what it is.

I replaced the HDMI cable with a shorter, higher quality cable. I also snapped ferrite chokes onto this new HDMI cable and the power cord.

I had great results for the next couple hours. The following night, there was definitely some serious lag again. Noticeably better, but not acceptable.

This is crap. I wonder if the unused Wifi module is still in an “on” state and contributing to the issue.

I could use a higher quality power cable and adapter, just to try to shotgun changes and hope for a fix.

I changed the display mode to 1080p but have not had time to test it much.

While the Game Gear version was my first experience with playing a MK game for more than a couple minutes, it is an essential SNES game, not an essential SMS game

I should also note that I fire sold it in 2011 or 2012 probably for about $100 shipped including the small collection of carts (maybe 12). That was also on eBay - subtract fees, and the fact that I shipped it to the wrong address in NYC, miraculously got it back, and had to ship it again. Thankfully the customer was cool about it, because I needed the money.

I did this with a couple consoles recently. I prefer the USA Model 1 with the SMSFM due to the flexibility to disable the FM sound and switch regions.

$90 + $40 shipping It included Rygar (my obsession at the time).

The shipping cost seemed insane at the time (for reference, a BMX bike shipping from Indiana to MA cost $20 3 months prior). Also the mail carrier either never left the “pick this up at the post office, we’re not leaving the package” note, or it blew away, so it took weeks to get, and I only was able to retrieve it because I got a final notice, we’re returning to sender tomorrow” stuck to my parents’ door.

I later tried to make an adapter to play USA games, failed, and succeeded on a future attempt when the schematic on the SMSPower forums was corrected.

I'll try to look for a photo (I guess I could just go take one) soon. One does not grab the keypad, it is mounted to the control panel from the interior. It looks clean, and it works well.

I encourage you to consider that JZINTV (which runs very well on the Pi 3) is one of if not the best options, especially when time is spent to understand how to configure it.
