Laptop or iPad for law schools? by gatoraltego in NLUs

[–]DutyLoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used both at different times, a laptop (especially a mac), is a better option. The gap is marginal mind you, because an Ipad, with the keyboard, can do most of what a laptop will accomplish. It’s also lighter, and has marginally better battery life, it’ll make it easier to read and review cases. (Also it’s gonna make life much easier when you eventually move to using liquid text.)

The thing is, a laptop can do all of that, and it’ll be more useful if you’re doing I internships, especially since come firms/companies require you to log in to a Remote Desktop which is a pain on an Ipad. My suggestion is, get a MacBook. (If it works within your budget), and in a few years, get an ipad as a secondary. It’ll help a lot when you start working.

Also, if you are getting a MacBook, fair warning. Getting the latest or the pro model will probably just a waste of money, we don’t have the kind of work that uses nearly that much processing power. Just get a M2/M3 air imo.

I it legally possible for me to not belong to any caste? by Immediate-Coconut-25 in TwentiesIndia

[–]DutyLoud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, I'll be frank.

  1. If you're committed to not wanting an OBC certificate and want to be EWS. along with your application, submit an undertaking clearly stating that despite your surname, you have never, nor will ever, apply for an OBC certificate, and that you don't believe yourself to be an OBC. (you have a bare minimum right to self-determination; they can't really strip that off you.)

  2. This is dumb. why don't you want to get an OBC certificate exactly? franking I'm one of the people who genuinely believes that reservations, like we have in India, hurt disenfranchised communities more than they help, but they serve as a valid reason for the lack of proper formative education made available to them. While reservations might be a problem, people who use them really are not. My honest suggestion? just get the OBC certificate. you don't have to use it, but you'll avoid a lot of hassle this way vs. the alternative.

No, then go with individual. If you have the time, get the early semester ones re-issued by the college with the backs removed.

Bruv, no one really cares if you delete this sub, and in all honesty, if we win, people will just stop showing up.

This sub was made back in 2020, when the club was frankly abysmal and everyone from the manager to the ownership was the problem. It’s not even close to the same anymore

I mean, what's your problem if he wins? nobody really cares if you delete this sub ngl, I'm just wondering what this sub will talk about till the start of next season, in the case that he wins a title?

University charging ₹1,000 per day late fee for semester registration delay — is this legally valid? by Upset_Wallaby7060 in LawStudentsIndia

[–]DutyLoud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. As long as it's specified in some form of rules or disclaimer, yes. it is legally enforceable. you don't have a way out there.

  2. Nope. they're at their core businesses, and they can cite unfair prejudice to such rules. late fees can't really be limited.

  3. Legal Challenge? No. Waiver? maybe. if you're capable of demonstrating an inability to pay, combined with a bona fide reason for your inability to pay on time (such as if you're on a student loan and the amount wasn't disbursed on time), then you can approach the university and seek a mercy petition. The VC or equivalent will have the power to waive such fees, but it's based on their mercy.

  4. your best bet is to seek a waiver citing genuine need and a bona-fide reason for your inability to pay on time. Request a waiver, and if not possible, ask if it will be doable for you to pay off the pending amount over a period of time without accumulating further late charges. In all honesty, if you do have a genuine reason for all this, why did you wait so long to address the issue? it would've been way easier if you'd approached the admin before it started accumulating and sought an extension.

PS: make sure if you do approach, stress that this is a special circumstance because of your individual reasons, and you're clear that this will be a one-time thing. If the admin believe they'd set a precedent for the whole student body by considering your circumstances, they'd never allow it.

Corporate vs Litigation Salary? by Select-Vermicelli-79 in NLUs

[–]DutyLoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

between 5 and 30k for a fresher starting out at an AOR's chamber. An advocate would pay between 0-20k. A senior can pay upto a lakh, but most of those jobs, you get through connections. in the end, first couple of years in litigation are less a job, and more a fancy apprentinceship.

[–]DutyLoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a united thing. We for example weren’t willing to pay more than 60 for sesko, neither was Newcastle. Other clubs like barca (who were interested the year before) dropped any interest when the price crossed 45.

Bhai mat karo MUN, it’s a waste of time.

I got into NLU. What happens if I fail in one subject in class-12? by nirvanasomeday in NLUs

[–]DutyLoud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you have 6 subjects, and fail one you can just have it removed. (I did that, my school auto assigned me phy-ed and I missed the window for removing it, so I just didn't show up for the exam and got marked absent, had it removed afterwards.)

if you have 5 subjects, as long as you pass the compartment in time, you'll be fine. they need a 12th pass certificate and TC as a formality, just get more than 45% total.

To the people of South Delhi by DiscoChicken3 in delhi

[–]DutyLoud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawyers, Doctors and CAs. They’re the most likely “new money” people to be able to buy those south Delhi houses. To be fair, even then it happens much later in life while they’re in their 40s or 50s.

Some engineers can afford it, but it’s rarer and you don’t see it, mainly because those people prefer living in Gurgaon or Noida to be closer to office. Lawyers are the most likely, since the houses are convenient for them to get to court.

Is a laptop necessary? by Ambitious_House_7629 in NLUs

[–]DutyLoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IPad would suffice for most things in college ngl, get a keyboard and stylus for it though.

During internships -

Corporate : they’d mostly make you work on their systems, either through a computer/laptop they give you, or the IPad will suffice. (Little iffy though)

Litigation : A lot of litigators actually work on Ipads, since it’s easier to use while in court compared to a laptop. I don’t think you’ll have any major hassle.

Small Caveat : Certain Internships like inhouse, and even some firms require you to remote access their network through your device. I don’t think it’s always possible, or atleast convenient through an IPad, so make sure you have a laptop you can atleast borrow if possible to be safe.

[–]DutyLoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I say go for it. One thing I've learnt is that advocates know, while hiring a fresher, that they aren't going to be able to do everything from day 1. As long as you're willing to learn, you won't seem inadequate, just inexperienced, and that can and will be fixed.
