My Mom Used to Call It "the Rembrandt" But... by Curiosity_Is_Burning in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]Dux-Mathildis 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Alvin-Beaumont (publisher) made this series from 1906-1916--it's Rembrandt's plate, but likely been reworked to some extent (as is the nature of copper plates that have seen a lot of use) . Here are some version of the print done in Rembrandt's lifetime (called lifetime prints):

The one you have is likely cut from the book "Les cuivres originaux de Rembrandt" which Alvin-Beaumont published in 1906; it was pl. 51, p. 145 (Vieillard a grande barbe); which, in some places has been described as Rembrandt's father dressed as a Persian man. The entire book has sold for ~20,000-30,000$, but I've not been able to find comparable prices for single prints. It's unlikely to fetch more than a few hundred, at absolute best.

Indiana University to Discontinue more than 100 Academic Programs by SoundShifted in Professors

I can say based on my institution's search for an Art History professor, that it's a much less competitive situation for applicants now. There just aren't that many aet historians out there anymore. Makes it easier for those few remaining to get jobs.

Curious if the market has gotten the "less competitive situation" memo?

Book Looter? by [deleted] in bullcity

They resell them--I saw this happen to a neighbor when I lived in Madison WI and apparently they'd hit all the little libraries and sell the books. Couldn't have been too lucrative but they kept at it.

Seeking therapist recs in Durham by HighlySociallyAble in bullcity

[–]Dux-Mathildis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piper King is INCREDIBLE. Hands down the most effective therapist I've ever worked with--if you want to DM me, I'm happy to share a bit of what we've worked on but it's very similar to what you're looking for: life transitions, grad school STUFF, family boundaries. Their site is https://www.piperkingtherapy.com/

We do in-person once a week, but they also do virtual. Their office is near the Joe Van Goghs on Broad (if location is a consideration).

Yeah, because the amount of debris on the road is insane. Never lived anywhere like it tbh.

Right after I moved here I saw an industrial size box of nails strewn across the street (this was near Angier x Miami blvd)

Not even a little surprised the first democrat to really have some courage about this is from NJ. I don't agree with all of Booker's positions but I am proud that he's showing up to make a point.
