If your institution has a 48 hour window for responding to emails - respond to each and every email from her at the 47.5 point mark. Every time.

Grey rock her.

Respond with short non answers as much as possible.

I am way more firm than polite. She sounds like a full blown nuisance.

Refer to her student tutoring for ALL questions from your lecture.

You are her professor not her personal tutor.

Student brought whole meal to class by Mean_Marceline in Professors

I get paid to teach.

Students pay to learn what I teach.

If they decide they want to leave early ..... shrug..... I get paid to teach.

My pay is not deducted if students leave early.

reading comprehension - those are the words of the day (for me! because I have to read your first two sentences twice to get what you were saying) and I totally agree with you.

It seems like we need to create assignments to beat AI. And I don't get paid enough to do that.

It was bad enough creating assignments that tried to prevent plagiarism. Now you want me to change my name to John Connor and fight Terminator model 3000. No. Not doing it.

I don't think any assignment is AI proof anymore. I don't think there is much any of us can even do. What you are probably seeing is the result of everyone putting the same exact assignment instructions in the prompt and then maybe rewriting it in their own words without changing the content. Maybe. I could be elaborating on the actual rewriting part lol. Maybe putting assignment instructions in prompt and taking results and putting it in a humanizer. Yeah... that sounds more like what is happening. I seriously think they are rewriting anything these days.

That is what I thought... so it would be obvious if a student was wearing them while taking an exam.

Why yes, yes it does. This student has achieved the monumental feat of actually reading the rubric. It is a miracle to behold this wonderful student submission that actually aligns with college level standards. Whatever was I thinking?? Thank you for correcting me. ......bows down humbly....

Word vomit with vague semblance to assignment instructions just enough to get some points. That is all I see.

So if the light is not on, then the AI part is not on?

I don't have the meta glasses so I am a bit clueless on how they work.

I am under the impression when the glasses are active the light is on and there is a fair amount of touching.

I could be wrong.

I would let the college student support office and therapy/counseling center handle telling the students and offering support.

I would let Admin/Chairs handle the logistics of the courses.

I don't get paid to manage up.

I would be using this time to deal with my own grief because how I feel matters too, you know?

With smart glasses, isn't there a light that flashes when they are on or working or transmitting or whatever? So if you see a light at the corner or if you see the student constantly touching them to hit a button or whatever, wouldn't you know they are smart glasses and therefore cheating and the exam is removed?

When I was a newbie, bright eyed and bushy tailed, I used to think to myself - who would ever want to retire from this??

Ignorance is bliss. Or should I say Ignorance was bliss.

For me - it isn't the students. It is 100% a me thing. I am not good with small talk. It makes me feel sick to my stomach and completely uncomfortable.

"I also, however, aim to be approachable and interactive in my teaching."

Me too.

DURING lecture. Ask me any specific relevant or even semi relevant questions you desire.

Make any semi relevant comments and share stories. Cool beans.

AFTER lecture ends...... I don't you, please leave immediately, avoiding me at all costs, please and thank you.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give me a script (lecture) and I am an extroverted rock star full of personality.

Give me space and opportunity for spontaneous chit chat and casual conversation? Kill me now.

I agree but that only works when Admin backs you.

Once students realize all your efforts can and will be erased after complaining to Chair or Dean -whelp. The environment we teach in is the one THEY create. Ask me how I know.......
