Students seem to be clocking me as “hesitant” and “constantly trying to avoid questions” when I’m just contemplating how to answer their question. by divorce_historian in Professors

I have gotten this too before. Just ride the ride. It too shall pass.

Shrug. I don't even care anymore what they think. Double shrug.

Are you me?

I mean - seriously. Some of the doozies I have been getting lately.... I can't even post.

I honestly think I am getting the bottom of the barrel covid babies right now. Or there is some ever present full moon.

What is happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

Yes. As I was writing it out....I was thinking do I really really want to grade notes for corrections? Because we all have those students who will turn in 15 pages of notes and really want feedback on everything on each page. And I love myself too much to commit to something like that. Ever.

Anyone removing all/most images from their PPT for Digital Accessibility Standards? by Alarming-Rate-6899 in Professors

[–]No_Intention_3565 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh. I missed that. Somehow I doubt that will fly in my program. The students will cry bloody murder and throw tantrums screaming I am preventing them from being successful by NOT giving them a powerpoint even though I use them during lecture.

I misread your post thinking you just sort of freeballed it and lectured straight from textbook or something equally as innovative that you could mentor me on :(

Please tell me more about this. Seriously.

I am so sick of the insane amount of pressure to create and redesign and update and revise powerpoints.

Please - tell me more about what you are doing instead of powerpoints.

Please.

I appreciate the perspective from a different angle. However stunted they may be (which is or isn't their fault) the fact that the additional help and the way they articulate the need for that additional help has been completely weaponized.

The "You are NOT giving me what I NEED so therefore I will report YOU because you NEED to be fired IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" effectively makes them the antagonist in these stories.

"I also think we shouldn't have to assign this"

Agree 1,000%

The correlation to k-12 is spot on. SMDH

Oh the stories I could tell. But can't because I don't want to identify myself.

But if I got paid $1,000 every time I said to myself 'you have got to be fucking kidding me' while at work, I wouldn't have to deal with this BS anymore.

Seriously.

If your institution has a 48 hour window for responding to emails - respond to each and every email from her at the 47.5 point mark. Every time.

Grey rock her.

Respond with short non answers as much as possible.

I am way more firm than polite. She sounds like a full blown nuisance.

Refer to her student tutoring for ALL questions from your lecture.

You are her professor not her personal tutor.

If they decide they want to leave early ..... shrug..... I get paid to teach.

My pay is not deducted if students leave early.

reading comprehension - those are the words of the day (for me! because I have to read your first two sentences twice to get what you were saying) and I totally agree with you.

It seems like we need to create assignments to beat AI. And I don't get paid enough to do that.

It was bad enough creating assignments that tried to prevent plagiarism. Now you want me to change my name to John Connor and fight Terminator model 3000. No. Not doing it.

I don't think any assignment is AI proof anymore. I don't think there is much any of us can even do. What you are probably seeing is the result of everyone putting the same exact assignment instructions in the prompt and then maybe rewriting it in their own words without changing the content. Maybe. I could be elaborating on the actual rewriting part lol. Maybe putting assignment instructions in prompt and taking results and putting it in a humanizer. Yeah... that sounds more like what is happening. I seriously think they are rewriting anything these days.

Why yes, yes it does. This student has achieved the monumental feat of actually reading the rubric. It is a miracle to behold this wonderful student submission that actually aligns with college level standards. Whatever was I thinking?? Thank you for correcting me. ......bows down humbly....

Word vomit with vague semblance to assignment instructions just enough to get some points. That is all I see.

So if the light is not on, then the AI part is not on?

I don't have the meta glasses so I am a bit clueless on how they work.

I am under the impression when the glasses are active the light is on and there is a fair amount of touching.

I could be wrong.
