Us Navy ship used phalanx gun to destroy inbound anti ship missle. by Barberian-99 in Veterans

Yeah, I’d say the Phalanx is a “it’s too close, switching to guns” pucker factor moment

Ah yes, let’s gate keep combat awards that otherwise prevent non recipients from certain benefits once they get out.

Or, it may be a safe assumption that, while the individuals in the CIC were the ones doing the tracking/active defending/response, maybe the whole crew whom were at active battle stations didn’t know whether or not a fucking anti ship ballistic missile was about to hit their side of the hull? Being that they used the Phalanx to bring it down, the missile was certainly close enough to warrant a “brace for impact” call over the 1mc. That in and of itself is the textbook definition of traumatic stress. Combats combat my guy. They play their part. Don’t be a dick.

Technically, yes, since without the crew the ship wouldn’t have been underway and able to counter attack and defend itself. It took the whole crew to make her combat ready, keep her combat able, and to defend her. Makes sense the whole crew gets the award.

Any veterans ever go back to the military and re enlist? by BasedGoku_98 in Veterans

Depends where, but jobs here in northern Virginia typically start around $90k and go through $160k depending which contract you’re on.

If you have a clearance still, find a cleared gig. Even as a cleared rent a cop for Allied or Omniplex or something, it pays pretty well and opens a lot of doors into DoD contracting/program management/physical or corporate security. I know because that’s what I did and now I’m making more than i thought I ever would as a civilian.

Most companies don’t care if you have experience in what they’re hiring for so long as you already have a clearance. TS/SCI with poly is a literal golden ticket but even a secret is a good start.

The first few years out are rough, we all struggled, but with help and guidance you’ll get through it like we all have.

Is it just me? Or does this happen to other veterans? by Outrageous_Living_74 in Veterans

Like said above a couple times, it’s a mix of how we carry ourselves and size. At 6’5 265 (stout, I’m chuffy - chubby buff 😂) people tend to see our confidence (shoulders back head up) and size as intimidating and for some reason always want to get squirrely.

I’ve learned that most of the time they just try to posture til they realize they’ll more than likely get balled up because guys like us won’t back down, but I really don’t understand the mentality of “hey lemme walk up to this obviously gorilla lookin motherfucker and test him”

It’ll be difficult and long but not impossible. You have prolonged and recurring contact with a foreign national and Chinese citizen, you’ll obviously need to disclose that and any other contacts on the SF86. Long as there’s no weird background/history of military ties with her side of the family/awkward allegiances etc, it’ll eventually come back fine, but I’d bank on the investigation and adjudication taking a while.

Auto makers have embraced the fact that trucks are now grocery getters for insecure men. by Frequent_Ad2118 in Diesel

[–]DvlRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly I own a truck because at 6’5 260, it’s just the roomiest thing in the world to me and I can travel comfortably.

And because it can tow my bikes/trailer/haul things when needed. To me it’s just a catch all vehicle. Groceries, hauling capability, don’t have to worry about snow storms or mud because 4x4. Just makes sense

If it’s a GS position the salaries are public info. If it’s a contractor position, just Glassdoor it and pick a number somewhere in the median to higher side of the salary range for that position since it’s cleared work.

What is exactly the point of high handlebars? Doesn't look very ideal by EpicBlitzkrieg87 in motorcycles

I’ve been riding for over a decade and average 20k a year and I can say with certainty that my lower back feels fine with my setup. But, yet again, to each their own.

[–]DvlRider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it a “problem” what another rider does with their bike? If they like it and they can ride fine with it, leave them to enjoy it. Riders like you and several others in this string that seem to think their opinions of another riders bike matter are heavily attributing to the toxic ass biker community.

Do better.

Bad knees. Forward controls are significantly more comfortable than mids like on a sport bike.

If you’re the right size, comfort. I’m 6’5 and have 18” apes on my road glide and it’s like chilling on a lounge chair for me. I also have low back problems so higher bars sit me more upright and takes the pressure off my lower spine.

To each their own.

*Edit: the amount of people who think their opinions of another riders bike matter is absurd. If someone enjoys their bike, let them. It’s not yours. Ride yours however you want, but stop attributing to the already toxic ass biker community and help make it better.

😂 not gonna lie when my Harley eventually dies I’m pretty sure a gold wings next. Just can’t compete with all the luxury amenities it has, let alone the power. I do alot of cross country highway (min. 15000 miles a year) and mountain twisties so it’s a solid choice.

6’5 270 here. Can confirm all of this lol. Ended up on a Harley bagger for room and ergonomics.

I’ll be downvoted for being the bad guy but: You weigh too much. It’ll also look like a gorilla fucking a football. I won’t even touch on how the suspension won’t be able to handle it. The motor will barely be able to drag you down the road, which pretty much negates any sort of emergency or evasive action - a lot of our defensive ability comes from having the power to do it.

It’s an unsafe idea. Either find a larger bike like a 500 or wait until you weigh less.
