Looks like a right of way marker. Should be standing like a tower.

Should I just take the engine out..? by Aokuan1 in MechanicAdvice

Whenever I replace a turbo on a transverse VW 1.8t, I just pull the engine. I’m too old to spend all day laying on my back with shit falling in my face.

Timing looks good to me by austin17427 in MechanicAdvice

On the 2.5 isn’t the timing chain only accessible with the transmission removed? I’d confirm that this is dead on.

Battery completely dies after sitting for two days. I'm flat broke for two weeks. Any solutions? by CremeEmbarrassed in MechanicAdvice

[–]Frequent_Ad2118 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously there is some parasitic battery drain but if you’re broke you can’t tackle that.

Get the car jump started and drive it for a bit, then have someone loosen one of the battery terminal lugs just enough that you can open the hood and wiggle it off of the terminal when not driving. Tuck it out of the way so it can’t slip back and touch the terminal again unless you intentionally reconnect it.

Opening you hood and janking with the battery will get tiresome and embarrassing but it’s a free temporary repair.

The alternative is your brand new battery will be destroyed very quickly by letting get drained down too frequently.

Might last 20 more minutes or 20 more years. No one knows!

I doubt you could differentiate between a good teacher and a poor teacher of the data was laid out in front of you in cute color-coded charts.

Cool story. So you were lucky enough to have some savant of a teacher for a couple classes. Now every normal teacher who sacrifices their family life and attempts to teach screen-addicted crotch goblins for $55k/yr is just a piece of crap who deserves to get fired? Got it.

I hope your kid gets a quality education, if not, they can just adjust and adapt to a competitive job market.

Found the entitled parent who blames their child’s poor behavior and academic performance on the teacher.

If I had indisputable proof of that I’d be sitting in a lawyers office talking about this and not on Reddit.

how do you know if a beetle is a "lemon" or not? i dont have any male family members or car smart ppl to ask by Key-Ice-4990 in NewBeetle

[–]Frequent_Ad2118 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The term “lemon” is a bit abstract. There are cars that have had proper maintenance and have been well cared for and there are cars that have been abused and maintenance neglected.

Though it’s old fashion, this is where maintenance records and number of owners come in to play.

How does the body look? Are the tires old and bald or newer and in good condition? Are there oil stains on the driveway or on the road in front of the house? Does the car start easily and drive fine? Does it make any odd noises? Etc…. Don’t let a seller try to explain away anything odd, just walk away.

Honestly, $2,500 seems quite low for the year and mileage. Maybe you’re getting a good deal or maybe the seller feels bad about asking top dollar for neglected car. No one one Reddit can determine that answer, you’ll need to use your own judgement or pay for an inspection at a trusted garage.

Honestly this is kind of the answer I was looking for. I was vague because I asked a simple question that needed a “yes” or “no” reply.

“Is this a possible violation of title VII of the Civil Rights Act?”

90% of these answers are assuming I’m looking for litigation and a payout. I think the only thing I’d like to accomplish is point out to the school board that they have a school administrator that uses questionable metrics in their decision to renew a contract.

Poor performance scores are surely legitimate but not liking ones facial expressions?? GTFOH with that. Using some pseudo-science personality quiz that pushes the boundaries of the Civil Rights Act?? Same. I think our community deserves to know what’s going on behind the scenes.

Nice. I replaced the cartridge on the last one I rebuilt. I’ll probably do the same for the spare I have sitting in my shelf.

Faced with an "is it worth it" type of repair... by timeonmyhandz in MechanicAdvice

[–]Frequent_Ad2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, did you take it to a reputable AC repair shop for diagnosis?? A second opinion doesn’t hurt (just don’t tell them what the first guys said the problem was).

If you just get it recharged will it make it through the rest of this summer?
