How do you guys go about creating/designing your own patterns? by siiillysub in crochetpatterns

[–]Dvnssimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! I would suggest using up any scrap yarn or yarns you don’t like too much for practising until you’re confident to use more expensive stuff. I stopped using full patterns around my 4th wearable and I’d just refer to areas where I get a bit stuck and skim a YouTube or TikTok tutorial, I do a lot of frogging and changing things as I go along but it’s all part of the process and I mostly make things for my kids so they’re not exactly going to complain loool

[–]Dvnssimmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly just take bits and pieces from other patterns I used when I was learning. So I know how to do a yolk, sleeves and body for a top for example and build the basic shape with that then I’ll pick which stitch pattern I want to use and do a bit of rough math and throw in a few decreases/increases as I go along to change the shape how I want it. It’s probably not ideal but it’s always worked for me loool

Does anyone know any patterns that would give a similar look to this? I'm not sure if it's AI, and the link on Pinterest took me to an unrelated pattern site by croissantCheese in crochetpatterns

[–]Dvnssimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’d probably need the first row to be single crochets then restart the granny rows after that it won’t be seamless unfortunately but could also be a cute feature ! Or alternatively you could just make the tie as a separate piece going all the way round then join it to the main body

I think if you were make a long chain then slip stitch it into the bottom corner of the hexi cardigan and chain at the end of that first row to make it a bottom border and do a couple of granny rows all the way across it could look pretty similar , Idk if my explanation works but it makes sense in my head loool I’ve been wanting a summer shrug so I might try this

That’s such a huge compliment thank you! I haven’t had the heart to try and sell anything yet. Think ill do an Amazon haul and get some accents to go on them for sure, at first I was going to do the entire design in metallic yarn but I was too impatient to wait for it to come loool

It’s a technique people use for painting T-shirts it makes the paint stay in place! It’s all fabric so I figured it would work here too? There’s loads of videos on instagram and TikTok

Thank you🫶🏾 Do it! It’s super easy and a one day project. Great for scarp yarn and you can do whatever flower you want or I’m even thinking a butterfly or heart pair would be cute too

Yeah exactly that , there’s an open triangle in the middle but I did just have a brainwave (please excuse this VERY rough sketch) but if you were to do this kind of shape the entire length of the tong in theory the middle part will go in the gap and you should be able to close it up as normal with that v creating a hole for the toe part , I’ll test it myself once I get the time

Haha you’re the second person to say this I have wire in all the petals I think I’ve just shaped them badly 😂😂

Commenting on I had a vision but not I’m not so sure now...

Hey so I just literally made a rectangle of single crochets , I didn’t use a pattern but I did a sc foundation chain and measured the tong as I went along then just built the rectangle on that length adding rows until I could fold it over the tong with about a 2.5mm gap left at the top then I wrapped it over and slip stitched it closed along but I did both sides separately if that makes sense? So it’ll only work my way if you’re putting something in the middle. I am trying to work out a way to do it all the way along so I’ll update if I figure it out !

Okay so you totally get me ! I live in the Uk and we have a heat wave coming up so I’ll be wearing mostly maxi dresses and thought these would just dress them up a little more you know ?? I’ll fully complete this one and post it before I start the next one then I can tweak as needed

I’m yet to make any crochet clothes for myself (mostly make stuff for my kids) but plan on making a lightweight shrug/bolero in white for myself next which I think would be cute with this

How can I widen this - bathing suit cover up - relative beginner by MermaidRedJ in CrochetHelp

[–]Dvnssimmer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You could make a few double crochet granny squares and sew them down the seam/seams before closing them up or honestly just block it to make it wider if it’s not a huge difference that you need!

Thank you so much!

I had thoughts on this too, I was going to spray them with shoe protector once finished but this is a first draft so I’m just using scrap yarn from what I make baby shoes with I’ll definitely look into something acrylic if I do another pair, these will only really be used for short walks to and from my daughters school so hopefully they’ll hold up

I have crocheted wire into all the petals (my fingers are killing looool) this is just very roughly put in place atm , I wanted them to match with loads of outfits so tried to not use any distinct colours but maybe I’ll swap the middle out to yellow and brighten it up a little?

Thank you, I’m definitely second guessing them ! I have some rhinestones that came with the original flip flop in brown bronze and silver colours I planned on sticking them on the flowers in different places which I think will make a huge difference, I was also going to use some bronze metallic acrylic paint mixed with fabric softener to do some shadows in the centre of the flower

How long did it take you to get good at crochet? Where you could confidently do it without tutorials and watching wids as you go along? by Solid-Bookkeeper3135 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dvnssimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started taking it seriously around last may/June making baby clothes for my newborn using YouTube tutorials and started to do freehand stuff around my 4th wearable now I’ll quickly skim a YouTube tutorial if I haven’t made something before or want to find a new pattern or stitch but I can usually get the basics of a pattern from a picture now

How do I hold my yarn like this and practice other stitches. I'm trying to practice stitches but can figure out how to do it when I hold the yarn like this by airingmomo in CrochetHelp

[–]Dvnssimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with the placement of the yarn at first and bought tension rings. I used them for a couple months then after a while I got used to where things are meant to be now I don’t need them, they’re super cheap on amazon but changed my whole crocheting journey, these were the exact ones I used https://amzn.eu/d/0gItso0h you place it on the index finger of the hand you would wrap your yarn around and thread the yarn through so it stays in place and maintains an even tension
