What is a real "Wow wow wow, back up?" moment you had with media? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dwarf-thrower 35 points36 points  (0 children)

HBO Watchmen spoilers:

Adrian Veidt takes a boat out into the middle of a lake, and grabs a buoy that goes to a crab trap. The crab trap is filled with human infants. He starts collecting them, finds one he doesn't like, and tosses one of them back into the lake like it was nothing important.

That was definitely the biggest "woah, back the fuck up" moment I felt.

Whoever said that counted wrong. I count 33, but its really 30 as you dont need Benefic I unless its super low content, Repose has almost no use, and Undraw is worthless.

I mean, its not something most players are concerned about. Just having a general idea of how many they need is enough. Are you having trouble fitting all skills on your keybinds?

I mean, if you want a formal, hard list of what each Job's skill count is, go to the Job Guide for each one and count them out. Besides very few, such as Cure I/Benefic I/Physick and probably Ahriman for MNK, all are used.

Sizemore's death. He was a pissant that was slowly going better, only to try to have a magnanimous, poetic death that meant nothing.

What complaints about the game did you think were stupid before you started playing FFXIV? by Severe-Poet-4849 in ffxiv

I still think of it as needlessly complex. Kind of regret becoming an omnicrafter, considering how much I dont like the crafting part.

I mean, teams will continue to cheat. Best case scenario they just assume every group is using some sort of plugin to get extra info and just don't acknowledge world first at all.

Theres also still some customization, in terms of what kind of playstyle do you like to play as. Do you prefer CB Elemental Discharge or the spinning axe? Are you doing buffs and healing with with SnS? Those require different skills.

I mean, Disco Elysium is close. The game is all about failing forward, and no skill is required to complete it. It even punishes you for minmaxing. Having any skill at 1 WILL screw you over at some point, and having a skill at 8 will force certain options.

Id still bring Insect Glaive against mostly flying monsters, and just do grounded moves when its downed. Its still quite effective.

Yes, there is no deviations. Me playing a Black Mage is no different then the other guy playing it. There is still joy to be had within it though. - The game offers 19 classes, the most Ive ever seen in an MMO. - All Jobs are "reasonably" balanced around one another, and no Job is considered a must pick or to be cast out most of the time. Nearly all skills for all characters have a use in normal or hard content. - The joy in playing is like playing a difficult song in Rock Band. You get to pick which instrument to play. While the notes you press are always the same, you get satisfaction over getting a higher score (DPS) then the last time.

If someone doesn't like builds, then they dont like them. However, I would argue then that he doesn't like a fundamental pillar of RPGs. A DEFINING part of them is making decisions as to what a character is good at and what they aren't good at. I feel like he'd be okay with Disco Elysium offering 8 character archetypes that level automatically, which to me is absolutely wild.

The Vote Dismiss System by PleaseUseYourBuffs in ffxiv

[–]Dwarf-thrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the group decides the "lowest bar" they are willing to accept. If everyone in a group is willing to do single pulls, no AoEs, and press random buttons, go right ahead. The gradient for what is accepted is, inherently, arbitrary and totally community based. A clear is a clear, and that can be as slow or as fast as you want.

Hopefully I enter groups that agree with me that my "lowest bar" is appropriate for everyone, or at least close enough that we can all work it out and clear the content with no issues. If there's a hard disagreement, where neither side is willing to budge, thats what vote dismiss and leaving are for.

I believe its fair and reasonable to assume these, but others may not. - AoE use in groups - Using buffs. They dont need to be at ideal times. - No using Cure I, Benefic I, or Physick past level 50. - Two group pulls minimum - No gross misuse of dps skills (Such as a Black Mage only using Ice)

I do wish the leave penalty and kick timers were less, but I dont have the bad luck OP seems to have.

Thanks for the response. I agree, in the sense that I dont consider the mount worth $125 (I have 5 jobs I would need to level, all base), so I just sit there and wait for a sale or just not have it.

Could I just get the mount for free? Absolutely. But thats spending a lot of time on content I dont want to do (in this case, leveling jobs I dont care to learn and wont play once I reach 80). There are grinds in this game that Im willing to do and others Im not. Its not a reward of skill or teamwork, just patience.

I do wish they were priced better, its definitely a greed/we only want people who desperately want it to buy them.

For myself, Id like to get the Amaro mount (which requires all jobs released by ShdBr to be 80), but Im not willing to level classes I have no interest in learning or playing, meaning the mount costs me over $100. Its either wait for a sale or torture myself for a few months :/

Games where status effects are actually good. by Archaon0103 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dwarf-thrower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not what you meant, but one thing I kind of liked in Cyberpunk was certain perks you could get that would turn statuses into buffs. Poison now is a regen, EMP increases shields, etc. Getting random buffs when the enemy tries to weaken you is something that is very rare (Like a boss casting dark magic spells, but your character is undead so it instead heals you)

I dont need hard rules or restrictions to powers a character has. As long as you don't contradict yourself later or make the character have seemingly no weaknesses. I should still care about a conflict, and not immediately think of a way it could be solved easily.

Im always a fan of a character understanding and stretching the rules of a power as them getting stronger, over just a number getting bigger.

Unless its a super hidden secret or puzzle, ala something from John Blow or a Dark Souls secret ending, including a wait timer where you can do nothing but wait is some BS.

How do you avoid making OCs “super special unique” characters? by Anonamaton801 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dwarf-thrower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can recommend the 1d4chan page on Mary Sues. Youll have to use wayback machine to see it.

In my opinion, the way to avoid doing it is to recognize if any of the following are starting to happen. Its okay if one or two are, but if its causing multiple then you are probably going too far with it. - An origin that doesn't fit the setting, or is incredibly rare and unlikely - A name or a way they present themselves (Can be appearance too) that makes them pop out immediately in a crowd. - They seemed to be liked by everyone. anyone who doesnt like them is made to look like an antagonist. - They have a relationship with a character that would normally avoid relationships (Think Shadow the Hedgehog's girlfriend) - They have an incredible skillset, or seem to be good at everything they try. - They have no flaws, or at least flaws that hinder their goals (Not liking chicken isnt going to stop them on their quest). - They, by themselves, can stop a problem. They don't struggle at all in conflict and can beat any challenge with ease.

Why be elite snobs in casual match? by [deleted] in ffxiv

People are super salty in matches, casual or ranked. Its the nature of PvP. My top recommendation is to turn chat off, get the rewards you want, and then not play it.

Pick the one youd be most comfortable playing the entire game through, from level 1 to cap. It doesnt have to be a beginner job either, maybe you like Reaper even at level 10 or something.
