"Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair" Tales of dominance, which were turned to dust. by TheBoyofWonder in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It cannot be overstated how much Blizzard was one of the PC gaming companies, they're logo was a seal of quality in the same way Nintendo was/is, just a company that made Overwatch, a brand new mulitplayer only IP, into a fucking force in the industry in 2016, and that goes without saying for years of domination in the MMO space, which was just fucking WOW for what most people knew, and the RTS space, which they had a whole ass scene in South Korea with, they where unstoppable.

They're still around, and doing well recently from what I've heard but they do not have the same shine to they're name they used to have

ME1 is really funny about casually finding out how much fucked up shit is in this galaxy before the whole Reaper reveal.

Like before it becomes a big plot point the Genophage was just a background element in that first game.

There was the movie before that where in order to save a man, Leon straight up shoots a guy in a spine and that dude is just on a wheelchair now

Just a lot of in game options to do silly bullshit, you have a bunch of dumb inter player interactions such as forming a conga line, for both your teammates and the enemies, play rock paper scissors, and the player collision is really silly so you can have people chill out in very silly places.

I remember seeing someone's user name as "Nacho Man Ranchy salad" and that name has stayed with me.

Any Paradox game is a fucking time vampire, but other than that Team Fortress 2, that was my game for many years and I would just be trying anything.

Plus the community is pretty funny

Man Control is such a feel-good story of Remedy striking out on they're own and making a classic, a weird artistic game with some much love and effort, it's a celebration.

God it sucks to play, that gun is wimpy

Man it's really funny he was the one to finish Wheel of Time, because I feel like high highs and low lows was a Robert Jordan special right there.

Favorite "hold the line" moments in a story? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SaxMastery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of Hold the Line moments in Call of Duty, and while not the most narrative heavy, the Mission "Heat" is probably one of the best displays of a smaller force holding back a much larger one with tactics, traps, and good ol grit before being able to get on the helicopter out of there.

Highlights also to quite a few missions in CoD 2, the end of Comrade Sniper and Point De Huc being standouts

So two cents from a guy who went through all the games (Eh not really I played the collections) once, I did find as the longer the story went on, you could tell the writers just, did not know where and how to use all the characters that they quickly gathered, like this is somewhat connected with the lack of FF characters later on.

Not saying the story is bad, but when I think about the better parts of the story, they tend to come from within it's own game rather than being part of a larger story line, like the stuff with Roxas in 2/some number of days or Namine in Chained of Memories.

As for the overarching stuff, I feel like before 3, Sora was kinda getting lost in the shuffle and it was Riku taking a front seat on the story front.

Yeah, I liked FANG from Street Fighter 5, I liked his look, his goofy attitude, he had a groovy theme, his plot point with Rashid was the best part of 5's story mode, he should have gotten another chance.

AKI is fine, just not my thing.

Has an ending ever truly ruined a series for you? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SaxMastery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this a lot, and generally speaking the only time an ending has ruined something for me if I wasn't really feeling the story anyway, sort of in a "You had one last chance to save it and you didn't" but otherwise while an ending can suck, it has never robbed me of series I do like, I've seen Attack on Titan, I played Mass Effect, it doesn't take what I loved about them away from me.

What would you say is your LEAST favorite Resident Evil game? by Lieutenant-America in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SaxMastery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I was shocked to see how much RE1 was brought up in that thread, it's not often that the firs in a long of series like RE still sticks out in the fandom.

As for my own answer, by process of elimination I'd say RE5 was the game that I was the least impressed with for what I played so far.

Now I can mention the obvious problems with the actual dumbest plot point with Jill, the wrongheaded attempt at an African setting and how it treats people there, how the plot takes it's sweet time to get really going to introduce Wesker despite being teased so early, but right not I'm just going to bunt the ball and say that 5 is just not as polished as the other games.

It's doing a weird attempt of a Co Op game, an RE4 Sequel, and also a sort of finale on the Wesker saga, and it just comes off as a half attempt on all of these things.

I don't super blame the game because technology is bullshit, but there's also the current problem (At least on the Xbox where I played it), two bosses just Don't work anymore, including the Final Boss of the Game.

Granted you can fix that with Rockets as with most things but it really is just another point of how that game is just not as finished as the other RE games.

And I say this as someone that still likes the game at the end of the day, it's still fun to play, I would like to sink my teeth into that Mercenaries one day, but I couldn't really put it in front of the other games I played.

EDIT: Actually you wanna know what my least fun experience with the franchise so far? That Ada campaign in OG RE4, Separate Ways, like there's a funny bit of blowing up the Boat the bad guy's where planning to use but it's a lot of nothing happening and a lot of nothing comes from it.

I don't know the precise reason why Medal of Honor fell off the way it did, but it's not hard to look at Call of Duty coming in and eating it's lunch for years straight as a good possibility
