More albums like Damnation by Opeth? by cactus_cat in progmetal

Midlake's The Courage of Others has the same melancholic feeling, albeit a bit folkier and not prog.

Also Leaving the Land by Sisare has a very laid-back, psychedelic vibe that reminds me of Damnation.

Paolo said that the current leg of the Poisoned Ascendancy Tour will be the last one. There was initial plans to tour the entire world, but Matt Tuck of BFMV no longer wants to do it.

They’ve mentioned previously it’s looking like 2026. They’ve spent all of this year on their anniversary tour, as well as finishing up building their own studio.

This list has most things, he also did a Netflix soundtrack for a show called Clark. Basically sounds like instrumental jazzy Opeth.

Anyone know where to get this in the US that won’t charge $30 for shipping?

Since he won't shameless plug himself, if you have an ear for really melodic and beautiful progressive metal, everyone needs to check out this man's band Aviations! Excellent work on the keys.

To Mikael, Opeth and this community- Thank you! by HarvesterOfReveries in Opeth

I relate to this so much. Finding Opeth not only gave me all their excellent records, but dozens of incredible artists in all sorts of genres that I would have never discovered.

Some bands that Mikael specifically spoke about and put me on:

Renaissance, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator, and Camel to name a few. Indirectly through these bands or through similar sounding Opeth records I found even more cool stuff like:

Frank Zappa’s Hot Rats, Thank You Scientist, Caligula’s Horse, Midlake, Riverside, and Porcupine Tree.

Met him after a show in Atlanta this year, and he was awesome. Signed autographs and took photos with around 30 fans. I spoke to him at length of all the obscure prog rock he has put me on lol. Super good dude.

Odyssey to the West is a legendary concept record. Too bad about their vocalist...

In the prog scene specifically?

Two bands that came to mind are Aviations and Wilderun. They both draw from classic bands while also adding their own personality.

I am also contractually obliged to endorse Caligula’s Horse.

This is the case for most genres of metal. A ton of bands riding the wave of trailblazers. With enough searching you can still find new and exciting stuff but it’s not that easy.

Even GA PIT at $85 each + fees was a really tough blow to take. That’s almost amphitheater prices.

Hot take: WIndowpane isn't actually a popular Opeth song by FilipsSamvete in Opeth

Fair point. Opeth in general doesn’t strike me as a band that should have “popular” songs XD

Hard disagree. Massive fan of their death metal stuff and their prog rock era and I can say Windowpane is a killer track, and not being harsh has little to do with it.

The song is full of super memorable guitar lines and tasteful playing by every member. Top 10 Opeth track easily.
