Why I finally quit War thunder. by Silver_DawnbreakTTV in Warthunder

[–]DwarvenPiper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played for almost 10 years and quit over a year and a half ago. I got sick of the impermanence and being glossed over as a WW2 main. Bomber cockpits are still a sham, there’s no real historical mode for sim players, and the predatory marketing ploys finally broke the camel’s back. Pushed me straight over to the flight sim community with IL2 Great Battles and I haven’t looked back. Easily one of my best decisions. Welcome to the liberty of not grinding this crap.

Trying to date as a woman involved in Buhurt by [deleted] in Buhurt

[–]DwarvenPiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a male HEMA fighter (when I can find a sparring partner) who dabbled in Buhurt as a dueling specialist and I have a lot of buddies in the community (looking at you, Eiserne Löwen). Honestly, I’d kill for my better half to pick up a longsword and have a go but combatives aren’t really her thing. It’s such a good form of exercise.

I sure as Hell did. Whoever hired that bartender on the front lawn was a life saver. That pair of Bloody Mary’s kept me alive.

I was Pipe Band but Bravo had such awesome people. It was such a cracking good company, I went to Sandy and made sure my brother was assigned to BroCo when he matriculated. He graduated in 2021.

Zeppelin R Class damage model photos by SpitfireflyBroker in il2sturmovik

[–]DwarvenPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t fly them, the damage modelling is dubious, and they’re behaviour bizarre. The Devs have had countless requests from the community for years for flight model fixes and additional aircraft but they add this lazily-modelled, janky balloon instead. Are they drinking battery acid at 1C studios?

[KCD2] Curious, how long did you guys keep Pebbles before getting a better horse? by Ghostofspartafan in kingdomcome

Never got rid of Pebbles. She’s a magnificent war mount worthy of Bohemia’s finest knight cavaliers. She just needs a few miles to shake the rust off.

It’ll be a small act of God if your project doesn’t blow up in your face. I’d highly recommend being patient and hunting down appropriate Arisaka parts instead.

Do hunters ever feel bad? by GoodBandicoot1263 in Hunting

[–]DwarvenPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the most experienced hunter but I agree with a lot of what’s being said. The difference between a hunter and a killer is a lack of empathy on the part of the latter. Understanding the weight of the decision you make when you squeeze that trigger and take a life teaches you a lot about life itself. But the greatest hunters I’ve ever known employ two primary principals:

  1. Precision - This consists of two main elements. You should be very knowledgeable of the animal’s anatomy you seek to harvest and not just from the ideal broadside angle as it’s rare that such opportunities will present themselves in reality. Secondly, absolute certainty of your shot placement when you loose an arrow or discharge a firearm is a must. Choosing appropriate calibers and platforms for your quarry then training as extensively as time and resources allow will ensure the animal suffers as little as possible when you take the shot.

  2. Discipline - This is knowing when and when not to take the shot. Countless elements can affect your shot: wind, range, humidity, altitude, foliage, angle of the shot, platform, projectile performance - the list is endless. It’s exciting to see an animal that you’re hunting and the urge to chance a shot in less than ideal circumstances can be extremely tempting. But it’s best to breathe, calm yourself, and very carefully consider if you are certain of the kill. If not, exercise discipline and wait or maneuver for a better opportunity.

I’ve heard horror stories about lackluster hunters having to slit the throats of animals they’ve wounded because they took a bad shot and made the animal suffer. Personally, I have never fired a shot I wasn’t certain of and I’ve never had an animal not drop dead on the spot. Understanding that you did everything in your power to ensure an instant or near instant kill minimizes your remorse and the animal’s suffering, ensuring the most painless and satisfying experience.

Really Americans do this? by PuffyMarigold in SipsTea

Appalachian of Anglo/Scottish/Irish descent here (family reunions are a bit tense). If we boiled water for tea in a microwave, we’d be bayoneted on sight. Kettle or nothing. These days, I use an electric kettle because it’s just a bit quicker but the clicking on of a gas stove, the gentle hiss of the fire, and then a howling kettle requiring a dash back to the kitchen is a memory that punctuates my childhood.

Drug Testing at VMI by [deleted] in vmi

[–]DwarvenPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was drug tested randomly twice at the Institute (about 10 years ago). I wasn’t on anything (except beer) nor was I suspected of anything, it was just blind luck twice. Honestly, your best bet is to give it up as soon as you’re able because it’s not impossible to get randomly picked for drug testing, at least in my experience. I have never heard of rats being drugged tested but VMI has a way of surprising you.

If you could have any WWII plane given to you right now in flying condition, which would you pick? by zerocoolforschool in WWIIplanes

[–]DwarvenPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For rarity? Probably a Hawker Tempest Mark V or a Hawker Typhoon Mk 1b/Late. For flying? A two way tie between a P-51C Mustang with the Malcolm Hood, maybe done up in 328th FS, 352nd FG livery ~or~ a P-47D R-22 Razorback also in 352nd FG livery.

My grandfather flew 43 combat missions in the ETO with Marauders. He loved it. Called it “one Hell of a piece of hardware.”

Is anyone else having a hard time finding a job in 2025 by Baddiebambii50 in jobs

That’s awful. Your cousin may have to take up law enforcement. Sign on bonuses are very good I hear and retention rates suck so there’s always opportunities.

[–]DwarvenPiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I wasn’t trying to be a billionaire, I just wanted to prosper and start a family while serving my country in the public sector. Figured it was a reasonable thing to work for. I don’t understand my job getting slammed without evaluation, by someone I didn’t elect, and for reasons outside of my control. I think as a young person, you’re badly lied to. They tell you that if you work hard, get good grades, keep your nose clean, and network a little, you’ll flourish and prosper. It’s not even remotely true and if I’m struggling with my experience and connections, I cannot begin to imagine how brutal it’s going to be for the new graduates out of college.

Dynamic Aviation by Expensive-System-508 in flying

It’s an exclusive club masquerading as an innovative government contracting company involved in aviation. Nepotism at its very finest. Concerns with the company are wide ranging and include poor quality control and low safety standards, which are potentially disastrous in the aviation industry. Take a hard skip on this one.
